Abdominoplasty & Panniculectomy
May 11, 2008
Well, I had my Abdominoplasty (surgical repair of the abdomen and abdominal wall) with a Pannibulectomy (removal of the apron of excess fat/skin) on May 7, 2008. The doc made an incision about 26 inches long around my midsection from a little bit past my left hip to about the same on right hip. He removed 3kg of excess skin and fat (will add before pics soon). My insurance covered the procedure for several reasons. The apron of skin covered my vaginal area completely when standing, and caused a breakdown of skin (yeast infection) under the folds. I wore a garment (girdle, binder) to keep the skin from sagging and pulling on my tummy so much, and that did not help with circulation of air to the skin. Also, I had muscle wall seperation most likely from pregnancy. I was also experiencing chronic belly pain. One doc thought I had an ovarian cyst! It was a terrible pain at times. And all from the weight of that excess skin hanging around there.
Anyway, my surgery went well. I was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon May 8th. I have had a bit of pain. But it is improving. I walk hunched over like an old lady, and sleep in the recliner to keep bent at the waist. It is bruising more today and I had some central abdominal pain when I try to stand. I am numb all over my belly (because the nerves were cut) but I still experience pain, it just feels creepy to touch my belly. The incision is healing nicely and my belly button looks so amazing. I can actually clean it with a Q-tip now. It's about 3/4 inch deep (versus not being able to fit a q-tip in there at all).
I am looking forward to the great results!
