I've accepted responsibility and ready for the work required

Jul 11, 2009

I had my initial visit with the WLS Surgeon on 7-2-09......it went well.  I took my daughter (11 years old) with me.  I want to encourage her as well as myself...the goal is to make sure that I get this so that I am able to inspire her and help motivate her to practice healthier eating too.  It's such a challenge though...you know how we southerners love food.

At this point, I figure that I am living more for self....I help others as I work in the helping profession.  Time for me to do for self, like I do for everyone else.  I am prayerful enthusiastic and hope full about my journey.  I am accepting responsibility for my actions and have already resumed my daily walks....Lord have mercy, it is hard walking up and down the stadium stairs when you close to 300.....but I am am out there at least 3 x per week....matter of fact, today is our day to go....taking my daughter and nephew with me.  One step at a time.  Since, I am already finished with paperwork and tests, just waiting to hear from Surgeon re approval and surgery date.  Will keep everyone posted.  I read something today that really inspired me http://trimywill.com  it is a great weight loss motivation story.

Finished the required test

Jul 10, 2009

Hello to all,

On Friday, July 10, 2009
Today I finished the ABG (arterial blood gas).  This was the first time that I had this type of procedure (blood removed from an artery)...I am glad that the tech used lidacaine...!  It was not that bad at all...just a stick...he said that if he did not use the medicine to numb....it would have hurt...thanks for using the lidicaine.

I completed the barium swallow on Thursday July 10, 2009
found out that I had some kind of non rotation of intestines (some birth defect that was never caught)....I have IBS so, I guess this is why....despite this, I've lived with this for 35 years, God willing, I am praying for 35 more or more!

All my required testing is done now.  At this point, I am researching the best options to see whether lap band or Gastric Bypass will be the WLS that I have.....like everything, there are pros and cons to both procedures.  The DX said that either will work, but more weight loss with gastric, less chance of complications with lap band, but more office visits and may irritate the IBS.....again, I am praying and researching.....since I can not have surgery until some time after November (the doctor is booked up until then)...I have time to decide.

In the mean time, I am walking 4-5 days per week and making healthier food choices.  No longer taking diet pills....making an effort to drink lots of water and eat in moderation.  Daily challenges, God willing the more that I practice eating to live and not living to eat....I will get better with the idea as food as fuel, rather than part of everything as is the norm in our southern home.  We don't eat pork, but we eat everything else! Just keeping it real.  My weaknesses are SWEATS (ice cream, cake and cookies)....my goal is to not have this stuff in the house.  My family members are like, are you crazy....we are not on going to change cause you want to......so, dealing with this issue of hey, I told you that I don't want any ice cream and cake....so stop asking me do I want to eat with you......

God willing, I will stick to my changes and work to be stronger each day.  I know that this is a process and I did not start of obese (did not gain weight over night) so I am willing to make some sacrifices to make the changes and to be consistent with my efforts to eat slower, chew longer and not drink high fructose sugar filled juices......
I am a Work in Process.  Nonetheless, I am pleased with my goals and look forward to learning more from you all on the site!

Thanks for your time
