Hmmm...where to begin....well, like many of you, I have been heavy all of my life.  From chubby baby to chubby kid to one brief moment as a 15 yo when I weighed about 135 to heavy young woman to heavy middle aged woman!  And here I am!  Also, like many of you, I have been on EVERY diet imaginable!  Anyone remember the Cambridge diet??  Done it all....the only thing that ever worked was hard core diet pills...and that was temporary.  As soon as I stopped taking them, well, you know the drill....

So I woke up one day at 47 years of age and 260 pounds and realized it was surgery or death at an early age.  My blood sugar was creeping up, my bones and joints were aching, and there is heart disease and high blood pressure in my immediate family.  At first, my PCP pooh-poohed me....said I didn't need to go to that drastic measure.  About six months later, however, she changed her tune after attending a seminar by the lap RNY surgeons at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.  With her support, I began my quest.  My insurance company required 6 mos. of supervised weight loss attempts, so the wait began.  That was in July of 2006.

After the six months were up, and all the paperwork had been submitted, I received my approval.  I was in hog heaven!  I was scheduled for surgery March 14, 2007.  But God had other plans for me....on March 7, my 24 yo daughter was diagnosed with acute myeloidal leukemia...my world came to a screeching halt.  She was hospitalized immediately and started chemo two days later.  After her induction round, she went into remission and has had two more consolidation rounds since then.  During one of her periods of rest from chemo, I got to schedule my surgery, which was on June 26, 2007.

The surgery went very well and I wasdischarged the next morning!  My darling husband brought me home and all was right with the world!
