First Post-Op Visit
Apr 29, 2008
I went to my 1-week post-op visit today. The dr said my incisions all look good even though one of them was looking a little "suspect" to me. I'm down 20 lbs from the hospital, really 10 down from pre-op since 10 of the 20 was all the fluids they gave me. Everything hasn't been too bad until yesterday when I started getting the awful stomach cramping when I drink. My sister had been having the same thing since her surgery. Why us? The dr gave me some antibiotics thinking maybe its something to do with that. I hope so.
I'm Officially On The Loser's Side
Apr 27, 2008
Well everything worked out and I did have the surgery on Wednesday. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30. I made it to the surgery holding area around 10:30. It took the dr 7 sticks to get an iv in. He was able to get a pediatric iv in and told me they would put in a regular one when I was knocked out thank Goodness.l couldn't take anymore of that poking. I had 2 anesthesiologist's which made me nervous. Why 2? This was my 5th surgery and I've never had 2 before. The one dr was telling me what the procedure would be. I was doing ok until he said when you start to wake up we'll take the intubation tube out. What? I asked him if that was normal procedure since I didn't remember that part with my gallbaldder surgery. He said it was and that I shouldn't remember it. When they took me into the OR everything went quickly. The next thing I knew I was waking up with the tube still in then they took it out. So I was awake when the intubation tube was removed. Recovery wasn't so bad. I went to my room around 6. The pain wasn't so bad. I was getting tired of all the insulin shots they were giving me. I had been dreading the drain tube removal for about a month before. That was an interesting experience. It wasn't too painful but definately felt weird. I was discharged on Friday and have been trying to walk as much as possible. Its now Sunday and I'm wondering if I'd be able to go back to work this Wednesday. I guess I'll see how I'm feeling.
EVERYTHING IS FINALLY DONE...

1 DAY UNITIL SURGERY!
Apr 21, 2008
My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. As of right now I'm not positive it's even going to happen. My Dr. requires you to do this online educational course pre-op or you can't have the surgery. Of course I wait til the last minute because up until a few days ago I still had doubts about doing it. So I go to do it yesterday morning and the site doesn't work. So now I'm waiting for a call from the website people to tell me it's fixed and for the Dr's office to tell me what's going to happen if I can't do it. It the surgery is cancelled maybe it wasn't meant to be. I have butterflies from waiting to see if I'm going to have the surgery to only have more butterflies lol.
Weekends sure do fly by......

Pre-Op Testing
Apr 17, 2008
My sister is finally feeling a little better. She is now 3 weeks post-op. I hope it continues. I had my pre-op testing done yesterday. They did blood work, an ekg, a chest xray, physical therapy, and a consult with the anesthetiologist. After that I went to my pcp and got clearance from him. I only had one more appointment left, or so I thought. I went for my pulmonologist follow up to see if I would get the cpap machine. He said my oxygen levels were in the "danger zone" on my first study and had improved on my 2nd study when I slept with the mask so I will be getting the mahine for sure. The office tells me I have to have the machine delivered to me and they don't know if they can get it by Tuesday, the day b4 my surgery. I am annoyed about this do to the fact that I called the surgeons office over a month ago and let them know I wouldn't get my results for weeks. The girl in the office "offered" to call the pulmonologists office and get them to put a rush on it since I was having surgery. Of course it was never done. I got tired of calling the girl. Well she never did it and here I am at the last minute trying to get this machine in time. Oh yeah they also detected some heart arrhythmia on the 2nd study. What else could go wrong???

Well I went to Walmart over the weekend to get some supplies. I got some crystal light and bottled water, carb control yogurt, SF Jello and pudding. I also bought some soft foods I'll be able to try a few weeks after surgery. I haven't had to buy any protein powders because I'm getting 2 big things of Isopure my sister is so generoulsy "donating" to me lol... thanks Jenn She hasn't been able to tolerate the protein drinks too good. I can't think of much more to say so I'll be going......
