30 lbs GONE FOREVER!

Sep 16, 2008

I’m six weeks post-op and 30 lbs lighter! I feel great! I have more energy, I’m happier, I even look like I’ve been refreshed and revamped, and what’s even better is that I know I will NEVER gain that weight back again! I feel like it’s a dream. Sometimes when I’m working out at Curves, I just think to myself…”Did I really get Lap-Band Surgery?? Or was that just a dream??” These weeks have flown by, and I honestly can say that this journey has been easier than any other diet I have ever done before I made the decision to get WLS. I’m not saying that it’s been a breeze, or that it won’t get harder…it’s just been a completely different experience than anything I’ve ever been through. My way of thinking is transforming, I’m starting to change my views about food. The true transition is to think of food as fuel and not as something you love and would love to eat. I think reading the book, “Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band, Everything You Need to Know Before and After Surgery to Lose Weight Successfully” was EXTREMELY helpful. So, this Thursday (in 2 days) is my first Fill with my new doctor in Carmel, Indiana. I’m not nervous, just so excited to see what the next phase will be like. I will post again after my fill.

Curves

Aug 31, 2008

I’m back at college now, settled in, and starting to learn how to balance all the new things in my life. Everything has been going great so far. I’ve decided to only tell my roommates and a few of my close friends about the Lap-Band, and for right now I am happy with that decision. Some women tell anyone that will listen that the Lap-Band was the best step they’ve ever taken, but I wonder if I will ever want to tell everyone. I guess that day will come…or maybe it won’t…this is a very personal thing we choose for ourselves.

So, I joined curves last week! I was a little shocked when I first walked in because I guess I didn’t realize it was a circuit gym. I was expecting to see treadmills and stationary bikes like in all fitness centers… so I was a little hesitant when I was informed it is a set 30 minute circuit. I thought to myself, “Is this going to really work for me? Am I going to get a hard workout? How on earth are those machines going to work as well as I want them to?” Well, after 4 workouts, I can officially say that I underestimated Curves, and that it is definitely a great workout. I plan on going to Curves 4-5 times a week. A little ambitious, but I know I can do it. I already feel better, have more energy, and even though I am still sore, I am still excited about going to work out every day! I have a feeling the scale is not going to move much this week when I weigh, and I know this because I know I have definitely started gaining muscle. I won’t let the scale scare me. I know I am succeeding!

After Lap Band Surgery

Aug 20, 2008

I am two and a half weeks post-op and feeling great!!!! I have lost 25 lbs in 29 days and I am thrilled!! My surgery went well, my doc did find and fix a hiatel hernia…but no biggie. I did experience some excruciating gas pains for about 24 hours after surgery. Thank God for burping and Gas X. I remembered what all the bandsters told me, and I walked, walked, walked, and sipped, sipped, sipped. I really think that getting up and moving every 20 minutes or so helped with the gas and with my speedy recovery. Within five days, I felt 90% better….and now I am 100% baby! I am on the first week of my pureed diet and couldn’t be happier to finally eat something that is NOT sweet! I leave for college tomorrow…my 3rd year at Purdue here I come! I secured a LapBand doc in Indy to help with my fills and after care. I’m going to miss Austin and my family so much….but I’m excited to start my new journey to losing and living with the band!!

Surgery Date!!!!!

Jul 18, 2008

I can't believe it!! It's official!! My surgery is scheduled for August 4, 2008!! It only took ONE DAY for my insurance to approve my surgery. ONE DAY!! I still have a ton of appointments and work to do before I go under the knife, but I'm loving every minute of it. I have always regretted going to doctor appointments and consultations in the past, mainly because of my weight...but anytime I need to go to Dr. Ganta's office for an appointment, I'm excited and ready to go!! That is a great feeling. A really great feeling. My life is changing. It's finally going to change. Monday is Day 1 of my pre-op diet and I couldn't be more excited!

Update 7/15/08

Jul 15, 2008

Here is a quick update on me! I've been to my first consultation with Dr. Ganta and it went really well! He answered all of my questions and didn't rush the appointment at all. I'm working closely with my insurance liaison, trying my hardest to get my Lap-Band surgery approved!! Tonight I am attending the seminar at Seton Southwest, that is if they don't cancel it due to the lack of attendees. I'm really excited to hear something back from my insurance...we should have the final word by mid next week!!
