12/30/10 - Today is day 3 of the pre-op shakes. They're not that terrible... I was afraid the way everyone was talking I would have to choke them down. I got the vanilla in order to have more options. I've added orange sugar-free Jello to them and ice and then throw them in the Magic Bullet. Instant Creamsicle Milkshake. Trying Pineapple next... Do I miss food? Yup. To be expected. It's pretty sad when you actually look forward to taking your calcium chew and multi vitamin because you get to chew something. Have I dreamed about food? Yep. Just like when you were dieting say, Atkins - and would dream about sugary things you weren't supposed to eat. Am I starving? Nope. It's impossible. These shakes are full of protein and are filling. Hence the difference between actual hunger and head hunger. I'm not "hungry" for those foods... I just want them. If anything the 9 day pre-op liquid diet starts to teach you that, not just deplete your liver of glycogen for the surgery. If that were the case,  why not just go on an all protein, low fat version of Atkins and then shakes for 3 days to clear out the bowels, hmmm? It's funny, but today I thought... damn, how sad is it that today I could totally go for an f'n plain baked sweet potato, quinoa with no butter, steamed vegetables, wheat pasta or broiled tilapia? LOL Puts things in perspective.

1/6/11 D-Day!
Well, I was up until about 1:30 a.m. trying to get things ready for my departure, and combatting the nerves that wouldn't allow me to sleep. Up this morning at 7:30 and out the door at 8:30. We arrived to the hospital at 11:00 right on time.
I got checked in through registration and escorted back to ambulatory. We sat for a moment and the nurse came in and said that the doctor was running behind due to some type of complication in his first surgery this morning. I was apparently his fourth and last for the day, therefore, mine was being delayed. They wanted to reschedule it until tomorrow, but after realizing that we'd driven near 3 hours to get here, they kept me on the docket.

So I'm here, with the IV implanted, the blood thinner has already been administered and I'm waiting for him to finish with his other two surgeries then he will get to me about 4:00 p.m. (unless of course something in one of those delays us more!)
I'm patient. I've made it this long. Just doesn't help the Karma thinker in me to get the "what ifs" going...
