I Survived Thanksgiving Dinner in the South!!

Nov 29, 2009

Okay people! If any of you are from.......visited, got kinfolk, friends, in-laws..... the south, you know what I am talking about.

Thanksgiving is practically a 3 day feast!! I mean the food is ridiculous!

There is all sorts of meats, ooey-gooey cheese dishes laden with fat, veggies laden with fat and countless desserts, yes, laden with fat! and that's just ONE HOUSE! Then you have to go and "visit your people", who won't hear of you not "fixin' a plate to take home"....of course this is all on Day 1.

I actually cooked dinner for my family this year that consisted of a lot of traditional dishes (our traditional dishes) with a bit of a twist to most of them. The only thing that I did not alter was the dressing and mac/cheese................that would be sacrilegious, don't you know!! I mean that would totally destroy all that is sacred in the eyes of most down home diners - LOL

Anyway, I made  sweet potato pie, but used sugar substitute and my secret ingredient was eggnog............it turned out great!! The recipe made 4 pies (2 regular and 2 deep) and today there are only 3 slices left (there are only 4 normal eating people in my home).

My banana pudding was SF pudding this year, they didn't know the difference! I made a couple dishes of vegetables, potato salad (with light mayo) and a ham.

The turkey was done in a roaster and was a no brainer.

I ate a lot of turkey this weekend, sampled the dressing, cranberry sauce, veggies and pie and lost 3 POUNDS this week!!! How many people can say they lost 3 pounds AFTER Thanksgiving? I love my RNY!!

Here is a quick peek at my complete meal on Thanksgiving
Ya'll be Blessed!
