Aloha

Jan 21, 2012

Wow... haven't updated in ages.  I still check the website, though.  I'm loving life!!  It's hard living here in Hawaii where being obese is socially acceptable and not eating a whale's portion of food is frowned upon.

I'm living life between 140-150 lbs.  I have excess skin in my lower belly but I'm not interested in plastic surgery although people seeing me on the beach may think I need to do it for all man-kind :-)

A revision with psycho-therapy was the best thing I could have done!

2009-05-26 Pom Razz Sangria Protein Powder

May 26, 2009

It came in the mail on Friday.  I had my first taste on Sunday.  It is actually tolerable.  It's 4 oz of water + 1 scoop of powder.  It doesn't mix up that well so you have to work at it.  I don't like putting my drinks in the magic bullet because I don't like the foam.  Regardless, I added some crushed ice and it was good.  Must be ice cold.  I sucked it down pretty fast as I was headed out the door.  30g of protein.  That's great for me and I'll drink it again.

I bought the Peanut Butter Cookie powder, too.  I may try it tonight for dessert.

Here are the stats on the Sangria:

Serving Size:  1 scoop
Calories:  123
Fat:  0
Sodium:  60 mg
Carbs:  1
Protein:  30 g

2009-05-26 Pesto Parmesan Turkey Burger

May 26, 2009

Oh yeah....this was some good chow!  Very flavorful and very moist.  I broiled it in my convection oven. It's from Trader Joes and here are the stats:

Serving Size:  1 Patty (there are 4 in the box)
Calories:  260
Fat:  18g
Sodium:  630 mg
Carbs:  2 g
Protein 20g

Okay, fat...wow that is a lot.  Sodium WOW!!  that's a lot.  A little less than 1/4 of the patty is 2 oz.  So approx. that is 65 calories, 4.5g fat, 157.5g sodium, carbs...negligable, 5 g protein.

Right now there's no way I can get all my protein from food, but this was a good, tasty, bite and I added a few strips of baked sweet potato.

I'm going to have to drink some serious fluid as I'm wigged out from the sodium.  I can't wait to have it again.

2009-05-23 Going downhill...

May 23, 2009

Well, going downhill as far as my weightloss.  Today I hit 32 pounds down!  My friend H. said to check my BMI, too.

Starting:  45.1
Today:  39.8

Wow!  That seems like a big drop...downhill again.  Woo hoo!  I don't even qualify for the surgery now at this weight.

I mowed the lawn today.  Well, it's not quite finished yet, but I had to stop.  Getting too tired.  We have a huge backyard, so that is a lot to under take.  I took a couple of breaks and just woke up from a nap.

I am able to tolerate Trader Joe's Wine Country chicken salad.  Since I had my 1st surgery in 2003, I'm used to chewing the dickens out of chicken and other food.  So this was kind of a solid food and did great.  I had it for lunch and dinner.

I found frozen turkery burgers and I bought some ground sirloin and see if I can have a mini burger.  No bread of course.  I'm excited about trying new food.

I got several deliveries this week including some free samples of different shakes.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I'm not giving up on finding good protein.

The next one I try is the Pure Whey test tube.  It's 3 or 4 oz with 26g of protein.

In a couple of weeks I got back to get some blood work and a followup with my surgeon.  Off hand, I don't have my cholesterol # but I remember my triglycerides were 345.  That is not good.  Normal is less than 150.  I hoping to see a good drop when I go back to the surgeon.

I'm still tired a lot, but doing great.  My pants are starting to fall off and I look somewhat disheveled (sp?) I have plenty of sizes to choose from.  It's great to go shopping in your own closet.

2009-05-10 Pistachio Ice Cream

May 10, 2009

Well, I made the pistachio ice cream from a recipe I saw on eggface.  OMG..it was so good.  About an hour later I had all the symptoms that I had with my "fancy" protein shake.  I used soy milk (lactose free) instead of lactose free cows fat free milk.  Good grief...I don't know what the deal is.  My poo was bright green for about 5 hours and of course total liquid.  I was really queasy but not as bad as before.

I was able to eat a 1/2 c. cottage cheese earlier earlier in the day, so I don't know if that was the trigger?

Regardless, I'm going to keep plugging away.  The only protein that doesn't bother me are the isopure drinks.  Well, and protein from food.

A couple days last week, I had some KFC grilled chicken, mashed potatoes (those are dairy-free BTW), and gravy and mixed it all up with my hand blender.  It was wonderful wonderful.  I'm going to try to eat more of that.  I'm too scared to not blend it up.

I got a workout at the dog park today because it was Civil War Reenactment day at the bigger part of the park and as soon as a cannon went off, Coby was gone.  Just running so fast and I couldn't find him anywhere.  I got a few nice calls from concerned dog-park moms and dad saying they have him over on this side of the park, etc.  (Keep in mind the dog park is like 60+ acres fully fenced).  Luckily I spotted him and when he finally stopped he was out of breath and laying in this corner of the fence.  I got my heart rate up for sore.  He's 40 lbs so there is no way I can carry him.  So 45 minutes of calming down seemed to be enough to get him back to the car.  My poor baby.

Anyway, as of today I'm down 26 pounds.  It seems so slow, but its going down and I'm on my period so that doesn't help.  I hope to be down 50 lbs on my 3 month anniversary.  That's how I was when I had my VBG.  I don' t know if that is fair considering I'm a revision.  But we shall see.

I'm fighting head hunger so bad in the evenings. I'm really mourning food.  I'm trying to stay busy but that is not always the answer.  I know I can't/won't eat something "bad" because the feeling of being sick is soooo not worth it.

I feel pretty good.  My incision is still trying to heal up near the bottom right above my belly button.  I can feel it stretching a bit when I work out.

I am good with my vitamins.  I could up my calcium more, though.

Whew.  Long winded.

2009-05-02 My first dump

May 03, 2009

OMG...

This sucks big time.  I made a "fancy" protein shake.  I am struggling with trying to get as much protein as I can in...woo doggy...it is hard.

So anyhoo...I make my fancy shake that consisted of the following:

1 scoop whey protein vanilla
splash of lactose-free milk
scoop of greek yogurt
handful of frozen strawberries
1 packet of splenda

Consistency was awesome; taste was awesome.  On about my 5th sip, it almost immediately felt nauseous and some serious hot flashes.  It is a terrible feeling and lasted about 2 hours.  I bought a pay-per-view movie to try and keep my mind off of the nausea.  I found my seabands that I got in the hospital and slowly sipped water.

When I was at support group on Tuesday they were saying it's possible to become lactose intolerant - hence buying the lactose free milk.  Of course the yogurt has lactose.  I don't know if it was the sugar...milk, yogurt and strawberries all have sugar in it.

So, I'll be putting that recipe to the side.

2009-05-01

May 01, 2009

I figured I would say something today...a new month...a new weight...

I had my surgery 4/6/2009 - Today I can swallow pills and sleep laying down because the acid reflux is GONE!  I've lost 21 pounds.  It's about how I feel...not what I weigh.
