Hi there!!! My name is Helana and I'm 30 yr old, single and live in Kansas City, KS. I've been a police dispatcher for 8 years and absolutely love my job. I've been heavy/overweight/obese all my life. The last time I can remember being 'average' size was in 2nd grade. I tried diet after diet, program after program and finally about 4 years ago found out about the LapBand and decided it was for me!!! Met with a surgeon, started going thru his 'pre-op' program only to find out my employer has an exclusion in their policy with UnitedHealthcare saying no to any weight loss surgery...saying it's considered 'cosmetic'. So I fought...and I fought some more. Didn't do me any good. So this year I made the decision with my parents to self-pay with their help and had my surgery on Nov. 20th.
