For the past 6 years I have been working on having gastric bypass surgery. The first time I was let go from the company I worked at, they said due to lack of work. What a crock, I was 3rd in charge, but because my health was failing I was costing their insurance premiums to rise. What did they really think I was that dence not to know why they let me go? But try to prove it. So I never got to finish pursuing my surgery.
I was unemployed and receiving unemlpyment for 6 months, Not easy to find a job in a small touristy town right before the Thanksgiving holiday, let along winter was here and everyone is laid off. My primary doctor also suggested strongly I apply for SSDI, he'd been on me to do this for the last year, but I was working and felt I could continue too. But my health told me otherwise. Almost 2 years before I lost my job I was diognost with Asthma, COPD, CHF, Morbid Obisety, Severe Edmea, Sleep Apnea, Insomnia and had since I was 13 years old, High Blood Pressure.
I had finally applied for SSDI, SSI and was sent over to HS (FIA) next to apply for State Emergency Assisstance. That was a joke. It took me two very long hard years to get anything more then food assistance. Don't get me wrong I was/am greatful for any and all help I've gotten and received. I was denied, so I requested a hearing, which took forever, but finally after a face ot face hearing and 90 more days I was appoved. Their Medical Review Team is something to be desired. ha
So now I have medicade, I was excited once again I heard that medicard would pay for my surgery and a hope for a new and longer life. Then once again the ball dropped. The type of medicade that my county has does not cover gastic bypass surgery. I was devistated and went into a depression that if not for my Mother, I'd have never made it through. Get this when I sought help from Community Mental Health to help me deal with this, they just said I was frustrated not depressed. And these people are educated? Give me a break.
Well finally after being denied for SSDI and SSI, reqesting a hearing and hiring a Lawyer I finally won. It's been 3 months since I got my award letters from SSDI and SSI, after dealing with Medicare and their new perscription drug program, I called Dr. Foots office. Oh he was referred to me last February by Dr. Carlson after haveing to have a hysterectomy because it was thought I may have Cancer. The good news was no Cancer, Yeah!!!
Anyway. I called Dr. Foote's office to find out what I have to do first. Because it has been almost a year, all the tests I had to have for sugical clearance last year will need to be done again.
So' this is my 3rd attempt to have this surgery, I don't know if it will happen, but I'm a strong woman and I'm willing to go forward.
And that's my story, as of today.
