3 days before surgery....

Jul 26, 2008

Well here it is, Saturday afternoon....3 days before my surgery.  Needless to say I can't seem to sit still.  I'm going to try and get to the pool with my little boy today and tomorrow.  I have to start bathing with Hibiclens twice a day until the day of the surgery to make sure the risk of infection is lowered.  I get to enjoy my proverbial "last meal" sometime this weekend as monday I have to be on a clear liquid diet.  I go in Monday morning to find out what time my surgery will be.  I have a feeling it will be an afternoon slot since I got in so quickly.  I'll probably write more before Tuesday.....I'm just so excited!!!

Setbacks that turned into blessings......

Jul 20, 2008

Well after the first shrink didn't write my clearance report I ended up with more bad news......this past Wednesday I learned that my pap smear that was done back in MAY was NEVER PROCESSED!!!

I was quite fortunate though that I was able to have it redone and the results were available quite quickly.  Huge kudos to a special lab tech at Womack.  Then I learned that not only was my psych report not done but my actual tests were no longer in the hospital!!!  Again with a little bit of luck those were returned and I got a surprise phone call and much to my surprise I got a date!!!  I go in on July 29....almost a whole month earlier than I anticipated.  This really works out much better for me anyway as my son starts Kindergarten at the end of August.  This way I'll be over the worst parts of the recovery.  Needless to say I'm stoked!!!  Well that's about all for now....I'll be babbling more later.....LOL

Minor setback....GRRRRR

Jul 10, 2008

Well we have a minor setback but I need to vent about it.....I got a phone call today from the Bariatric Dept. at WAMC.  Turns out even though I saw the shrink last week and got clearance, he failed to WRITE THE REPORT!!!  So he dropped the ball and now I have to go back and do it all over again.  Fortunately, they had an opening on Monday, July 14 at 10 am.  At least it doesn't push things back too much.  I went to an educational class last night and got to meet Dr. Olsen.  She seems very nice and although I have not met Dr. Hiles yet I felt instantly comfortable with her.  I'm sure that if I get to have her as my surgeon all will be well.  I'm just wanting the next few weeks to go quickly so I can get on the table and get my new life started.......

The Journey Begins

Jul 02, 2008

Well here goes my first blog entry and trust me I will be making A LOT of them in the future weeks/months.  My journey began earlier this year when I began contemplating gastric bypass surgery.  At first I was set on lap band but after my intake meeting at Womack Army Medical Center I began to have my doubts.  Now I'm pretty sure I will end up having RNY.  I have completed all of the testing and appointments except for one.  I meet with the nutritionist one on one on July 15.  When that is over I can call to schedule my pre-op quiz and then set a date to meet with a surgeon and schedule a surgery date.  Anytime after August 19, pending I attend the last support group meeting that day.  The program here requires a minimum of 3.  Needless to say I'm excited.  That sounds odd huh?  Being excited about having surgery??!!  I'm absolutely sick of being diabetic and taking 7 pills a day for that and other medical conditions.  Also being on an insulin pump is a pain in the hind parts.  I'll gladly trade all of those meds for vitamins, smaller portions and being healthier.  Well, let's not make the first blog post a novella....I'll be back later on....
