My story starts at the age of 8. My family moved to the country from the city to take care of my sick grandmother and I started putting on weight. Everyone thought it had to do with adjusting. I gained 50 pounds in a year, I have the documentation from the school nurse. My father's side of the family is heavy, so again, no one thought anything of it. I was always active, playing sports like softball, volleyball, basketball and golf. I continued to get heavier. When I was about 12 I went to see a doctor who told my mom that I should be walking at least 2 miles a day to lose some weight. I started high school wearing a size 16, I stayed that size and weighed 190 when I graduated. I tried various diets after high school but for some reason nothing worked. At 21 I got married and of course put on about 15 pounds. At 24 I decided it was time to try to have a baby, you always think it will just happen because you are ready. I saw several doctors after a year of trying and was finally diagnosed in 2005 with PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I have since taken Glucophage and still had no weight loss. I am at the point where I am scared of having Type 2 diabetes like I have seen my grandmother, uncle and father deal with. I also want to have a baby and be healthy when I do.
