3 Months.

Saw Dr. MacDonald Tuesday for my 3 mth. checkup. He said I was doing fine and my weight loss was great. I had lost 50 lbs. (52 on my scales at home). I talked to him about still having trouble with most meats and he said that was completely normal and that it would get better in the next few months. He said that after a while, I would notice that I could suddenly eat a much bigger amount of some foods like soft slider foods, even as much as before surgery. And that would be about the same time I would be able to tolerate meats better. He said "that's the time you need to cut back on the soft easy to eat foods and replace them with the dense proteins that will keep you full and satisfied." He mentioned that some peoples loss starts to slow down as early as 5 months out, but that you can keep losing for 2 years. He mentioned the rebound weight gain that often happens around that time, and said you just have to be careful to stop it then and not let it get out of hand. He is definitely a low carb high protein advocate, which suits me fine as I did well on Atkins before.

My son's wedding was great and I am glad that the whole thing is over now. Showers and rehearsal dinners, etc. etc. busy, stressful time. And surrounded by food- especially cakes! It's so strange to not want to eat them! I get so much "sweet" taste from the shakes, bars, yogurt, etc. that I crave salty or savory things instead. I usually eat a handful of nuts most days and that helps (also gives me fiber!). Still have to watch the potatoe chips, they call me like never before. Thankfully, even if I give in, I can only eat a few before my sternum hurts and I quit. Same for the reduced fat chees nips DH bought me. Have to stay away from all that !

Mostly, I still depend on the shakes and bars to get in enough protein. I am able eat tuna, egg salad, canned chicken made into chicken salad, scrambled egg, fish, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, chili (homemade or Wendy's) homemade meatballs, hamburger with fat free brown gravy (very small amount). Still can't really eat chicken, pork, or beef of other types. But I am satisfied and happy that I had the surgery. I am half way to goal, and feel so much better. I am so glad I was able to lose 50 lbs before the wedding. I know I would have hated the pictures otherwise!!! Most all of my clothes are way to big and it's getting hard to find things to wear to work. I don't want to spend a lot, since hopefully things will soon be too big again. Oh what a problem to have!

I have to get back on the exercise wagon. With so much going on the last 2-3 weeks, I had slacked way off. Now I'm gonna have to force myself back into a routine. Next week starts my 4 10 hour days work week for the summer with Fridays off. I look forward to them and worry at the same time. In the past, it has always been hard to stick to my diets on the weekends, and summer's 3 day weekends were even worse. I'm hoping being home more will not lead to those old habits. I will have to stay so busy that that can't happen!! I still have trouble remembering my night vitamins and need to continue working on that to. Have to get better and take very good care of myself!

I see Jamie, my nutritionist, next week, and will post if there is anything worth mentioning about the visit!
