9 Days Out
Sep 30, 2010
Well I'm nine days out on my sleeve now. I gotta say, I love my sleeve! My experience at the hospital was excellent. I chose a really experienced surgeon, which I'm sure has contributed to my success. I was self pay and went to Mexico to Dr. Alvarez. The surgery itself was a cinch. They did the pro op stuff, asked me to hop on the gurney, and that's all I remember until I was awake and sleeved. I was up and walking within a couple of hours. No real discomfort to speak of. A little gassy, but no big deal, walking really helped. Dr.A checked on me frequently, which was nice. IV's for fluid on day 1. Day 2 the IV's were removed. I did a leak test which just involved swallowing a little pink fluid while Dr.A looked at it under fluoroscope. No big deal. Passed just fine. I was cleared to start water and ice chips. Sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk. Stayed one more night, discharged the next day with all my meds neatly in a custom bag from Dr.A along with a cute little pillow shaped like a stomach with the diagram of the sleeve on it. Nice touch! It took a few days before I could lay on my bellie to sleep, but other then that, I'm just fine. I was on clear liquids for 7 days, no big deal because I didn't have any desire to "eat" anyway. Now I'm on full liquids, which includes FF yogurts, protein shakes, pureed soups, etc. I'd be just as happy on clears, but I know I have to get some calories in. So this morning I had a Muscle Milk chocolate shake, I'll have a Yoplait Key Lime FF yogurt for lunch, and some pureed soup for dinner, if I can fit it in. I really have no desire to eat, but I know it's necessary. Still sip, sip, sipping all day.
Yes, it was the right choice for me. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!
And Oh yes, I'm down almost 9 lbs. already!
