Help! I need to RESET!! Still struggling....

Oct 08, 2015

I weighted in today at 197 lbs, size 14. Sigh. I hate myself. I need to do something. WHY do I not have the focus I used to? Why can't I stop eating?

Finished 5DPT!

Jan 06, 2013

I can definitely tell that I am much fuller than before by not drinking 30/30 and not eating slider foods! Doing well so far, but only down 6.2 lbs since 1/2/2013.....but, I guess that's great since I haven't been doing this but just a few days!

Day 1 Complete 5DPT!

Jan 02, 2013

I had five protein shakes, turnip juice, mushroom bisque w/ no mushrooms, and water on yesterday. It was a challenge since I had all of these yummy leftovers in the fridge, but I did not cheat. I also walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes, not much, but better than nothing.

This morning's weight: 177.2

Happy New Year (2013)!!

Jan 01, 2013

I have been away from this support group for quite sometime. I should have never allowed this to happen as I have gotten comfortable and have all too easily forgotten what I KNOW I have to do to maintain my weight. Even with the RNY, my weight will always be a struggle for me. I think I've simply chosen to avoid dealing with the gradual weight gain, but now is the time to regroup!

I turn 40 this year. 10 years ago I chose to have this surgery at the age of 30 because of what a terrible turn my life had taken: HBP, severely obese, significant sleep apnea, extreme fatigue. I am NOT anywhere near the place I was 10 years ago, but gradually I've been putting on weight and I have to take control and get back to using this great tool that I've been given. I must say, though, that I've done a great job at learning how to "beat" the tool, and I need to forget those bad habits.

Tomorrow I start the 5-day pouch test. I will continue to update my progress on here as I work toward my new goals for 2013. I'd love to be 152 lbs AND participate in a regular exercise routine. I look and feel my best at that weight and also feel my best when I'm active. I do not need to get down to 139 again and won't.

Current weight: ~182 lbs.

I look forward to updating this page with positive results!! wink

Yes, I am still alive and kicking.  I seem to have lost a lot of my blogs, perhaps it was with the conversion to the new layout sometime ago.  Anyway, I am still doing pretty great.  I hit a rough patch because I was not taking care of myself, i.e., taking my vitamins, but now I do so religiously and I feel great again.  I didn't have to be hospitalized or anything....just extremely weak and no periods!  That might be a sign.

My hair is growing like crazy now and my skin looks great too.....

I HAVE gained some weight, though.  I think most of it came on this year. My fiance moved to Kansas in January and it's just been an emotional struggle being away from him, plus, knowing that he was up for deployment in 2009.  Anyway,....I am preparing for our wedding in TWO months (literally from today).  I am so darn excited.  I never in a million years thought that I would be marrying the man on my dreams!

All about my journey!

1/16/2014:   180.4 lbs. What a year! I gained up to 191 lbs due to health issues. I had surgery on 12/3/13 and am now down 11 lbs. This is hopefully the year that I will get back down to my goal range (150 - 160). I am older so I no know longer target the 140 range, and I've been told I was too thin back then.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a single, working, professional woman that seemed to gain a LARGE amount of weight during my pregnancy. I have never been able to get it off. Now, I weight more than when I delivered 5 years ago. I've developed HBP, reflux disease, shortness of breath, pain in limbs and joints, depression, and am always fatigued. I think that this surgery could help me, possibly could be the tool that I could use to help me gain control again. Now, eating is my life...I hate it. I've failed EVERY diet, gained the weight back and more....I just cannot afford it!

9/26/02: I just found out that my state, SOUTH CAROLINA, currently has a bill before the HOUSE that mandates insurances to offer an optional rider for gastric bypass! Read all about it here! http://www.scstatehouse.net/bills/4414.htm Please support this bill however you can! 9/28 View my group! If you're in South Carolina! http://groups.aol.com/_cqr/scweightloss?mmch_=0

10/13: I was informed by the governors office that this bill 4414 was defeated during the last session. It would not have helped me anyway, as it was for fully insured plans. My plan is self-funded. Still no word from HR yet. I have also decided on the MGB with Dr. Rutledge. I've heard great things about him and need the short recovery time to return to work. Dr. Rutledge does not accept ANY insurance. A patient must file themselves for reimbursement, but his staff will give you the necessary forms to file. My insurance will not cover the MGB anyway, so I'm paying OOP.

12/09: Things might be looking up for me...one thing to point out. I have decided against the MGB due to serious complaints about it being harmful long-term. I'm opting for the traditional roux-en-y, done laparoscopically, hopefully by Dr. Givens or his partner in Columbia, SC. My first seminar is 12/11. Yeah!

12/10: I may have insurance to cover me after the end of the year...., and it covers bariatric surgery if it's medically necessary! Yeah!

12/25: Great news to share! I just received a call from my surgeon and they have an appointment on 12/27!!!! Wow, I'm finally going for my consult. In the meantime, I've contacted my insurance, gotten my referral for the consult and the psyche visit, and I'll be seeing the nutritionist! Then they'll be sending in a request for precert! Oh boy, I cannot wait! More later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12/28: I went for my appointment yesterday to see Dr. Strickland with SCOSC (partners with Dr. Givens). He was really down to earth and was eager to answer any questions for me about my potential for having WLS. I told him that I have no qualms whatsoever about this, and want to proceed with the surgery. Hopefully one of my insurances will cover this, as Dr. Strickland explained it is medically necessary with my BMI and co-morbidities. More later as I find out more!

1/11/03: Hello all, I've got my psyche eval this upcoming week on 1/16! After that is done, and the psyche testing is finished, I'll be applying for pre-approval for my surgery! Hopefully, I'll be scheduled to have my surgery in March if all goes well with the pre-approval! Wish me luck!!!!!!

1/16/03: My psyche visit was today. Took the MMPI and had an hour consult with the doctor about why I want this surgery, how my life is going to change, talked about possible depression, etc., etc. So, a little progress, but I want MORE! OK< more later! =)

1/27: One more month before my 30th birthday. Man, I hope that I get good news by then. I found out today that FINALLY my secondary insurance has me enrolled and eligible. That took about 14+ days and I was getting restless. We could not seek approval before being eligible, nor before they had received my Certificate of Credible coverage, which I faxed today. Now, they cannot deny me for pre-existing because I've had no lapses in coverage for the past year! Yeah! Tomorrow the letter should be getting prepared to be sent for pre-approval from Companion (which I know will deny this), and from Guardian (Premier Health Systems). I am sooooo excited. Please everyone, pray for me, and wish me luck!!!!!!!!

1/28: My doctor's office called me today and told me that the second letter is being sent today after it's dictated for my secondary insurance. I faxed everything over regarding the Schedule of Benefits and Cert of Cred Coverage so that they have it for my files! I cannot wait to hear back, this is like sitting on hot pins and needles!!!!

1/30: Darn it, darn it! My insurance called my doctor and told them that I need a nutritional eval and a complete diet history. Now wonder why they didn't tell me this BEFORE? I was under the impression that we had everything and I wanted to have everything sent the first time around. Now I have my appt with the nutritionist on Monday 8AM. I'm ready. At least I know what to expect now; they have everything that they need to make this determination. Hopefully!!!!! Until then, I'm still waiting.....patiently....

2/3: Well, I met with the dietician today and I faxed over my diet history and my 'story' concerning weight loss. Now we just have to wait and see! rr

2/6: Called Dr's office and they said they faxed over the information yesterday. Good, I'll wait a day or so and call the insurance to make sure they have it!

2/7: OMG, I'm Approved!!!!! I'm Approved. I cannot believe how quickly this happened! Thank Jesus!!!! Wow, two days and I had a reply! Actually, the scheduler told me that he found out the day before! One day! Premier Health (of South Carolina) is wonderful! My surgery date is 5/20/03!

2/8: Wow, my life is changing so fast already. I found a house today that I wanted, still under construction, went in, but the good faith money down, and by April 30th, if all goes well, it will be mine! ;oP Yahoo! And what great timing, it will be right before surgery, so I'll have a good opportunity to get all settled, moved, and then recover in my new home. It's two story, but oh well, the stairs will help me get my exercise! I'm looking so forward to 2003. I think that it will be the best year ever!

2/23: I'm really getting so anxious about all of this. I know that I have a little over two months to wait until I have my surgery, but the anticipation is just killing me! My friend goes in to have hers on 3/11/03, and she has her profile under 'Wendy McKendree'. Make sure to wish her well!

3/5/03: Hi everyone. Gosh these days seem to be just moving so slowly toward my big day! It seems that it is taking forever to get here. I am anxious to get started on the new me; right now I'm having problems associated I think with my PCOS. I have an emergency appointment tomorrow with by GYN, I've been having a period for 3 weeks now, or at least what I think is a period. Prior to that, no period for two months....my hormones are soooo out of whack! The weight loss will help them tremendously! OK, enough for now....more later.

3/17/03: I just returned from a weekend trip to Alabama to see my friend Wendy who just had WLS (3/11/03). She is doing great! I can hardly wait for my big day. I am attending a WLS support meeting on 3/19, coordinated by patients of Dr. Strickland's practice. It's from 6-8 for those who'd like to attend, very informal from what I hear. I need some encouragement right now too! I've been eating like a horse!

3/31: Damn, just found out this weekend (Friday) from my doc I have diabetes. Gonna have another A1c run tomorrow to make sure and get some medicine prescribed! Ugh! On top of that, still having female problems and no one is listening to me (at least not my doctors). I think having a period for 7.5 weeks is an issue, don't you? Anyway, may have to have a D&C if things don't get better. Sleep apnea consult scheduled for 4/25, appt with cardiologist scheduled for 4/7. Oh well, hope I don't fall apart before I get this damn surgery! Robin

4/3: Went back to the doc, got my blood drawn, and now I'm waiting on the results of my A1c. We'll see......(the days are drawing near and I'm soooooo excited.)

4/9: Can you believe that my doctor's office still has not gotten the results of my lab work back yet? I called two days ago...... ************************************************************************************************************************

7/28/04: Seems that parts of my profile are missing, oh well.

Update: On 7/19/04 I underwent a mastopexy and panniculectomy for the removal of my excess skin due to my WLS. I am doing and feeling great, and I have the results that I wanted plus more. I cannot believe that I could possibly have that 16 year old body again. Wow. Still dealing with the drainage tubes and all, but overall very little pain, only a little discomfort. It was done as OP and I was sent home the same day and only took my mepergan for about three days before I no longer needed it. All 81 stables are out now, plus my stitches. Tummy is flat! Wow. More later...oh BTW: they removed 6 lbs of excess skin off!
