Haven't been here in a while
Feb 28, 2010
It's been 10 months since I posted and a lot has happened. Got admitted to Cleveland Clinic last May. Finally got things turned around. My drains had pierced my intestines which kept leading to all the abscesses, they were all removed to left them heal. Had to have my abdomen open so it could drain. My husband had to pack the wounds every day with gauze. Surprised he stayed with me through all this, gaging all the way...... eventually everything healed up. My feeding tube was removed in August and I was finally allowed to eat, It has been a whole year. It's been 6 months now and I can keep some food down. I still vomit every day. I realize I have to eat all day, a little at a time, a few Cheerios here and there, a sip of soup, and the like. I'm down 150 lbs since surgery and looking like a sharpie but at least I'm alive. Don;t have a doctor anymore, no one will accept me as a patient because of all the trouble I had. I can go to Cleveland, but on my dime. My family Dr. is wonderful, he's been checking my vitamin levels and trying to learn as much as he can to help.
Back to work, found a part time job 50 miles away from home, but at least we have an income again. Really liking it though. Maybe I'll stay semi retired !!
Still learning what I can and can't tolerate. No bread , No milk products, No noodles, No hamburger or I will be extremely ill. Fish and sea food are wonderful !!!
Wanted my old life back so bad, but as time goes on this new chapter isn't too bad. Every day gets better.

I had an Rny on August 25, 2008. Things did not go as planned. I ended up with peritonitis and sepsis and was in a coma in ICU with a trach for a very long time. They did not think I would make it for a while. But I pulled through,( with no memory of most of my hospital stay, thank God ) I still, as of this date have a feeding tube and several drains that are hooked to suction machines. There is still a hole in my stomach, so I'm can't take anything by mouth except for an occasional Popsicle to check for leakage. Do you realize every commercial on TV is about food !! I want a cup of coffee soooooo bad.
I am trying to get into Strong Memorial hospital in Rochester to see if I can be fixed. Doctor has all my records, he just wants to go over them before he decides if he will see me. My doctor wants me to go to Cleveland Clinic but I was turned down by Independent Health ( my insurance company). I use to be an x-ray tech and loved my job! bought a house to be close to work, was fitting into my life nicely. Now I lost my job because I have been out of work so long, The house went into foreclosure, but thank God my parents decided to take on the burden of paying my mortgage every month so we have a place to live. Waiting for the repo company to come and get the car next. We went on welfare, but in order to get any cash, you have to be able to take a job. Can't do that just yet. Applied for SSDI. turned down, appealed but a court date won't come for over a year, they're backed up. My husband has disabilities and is able to work two days a week, so we cut to the bare bones and are getting by for now.
I guess the reason I'm posting now is that I've been so deeply depressed, keeping this blog might help me snap out of this stupor I'm in. Every one on this site is so uplifting I need to draw on that.
