3 year surgiversary!

Aug 29, 2011

I can't believe it has been three years already!  I have been at a steady 155 since January, 2011.  A terrible bout with Gastroenteritis helped me get back down to this weight and stay there.  Since then, I have not been over eating:-)  I actually have to be very careful with what I eat now, I think I have developed some problems with IBS, which were somewhat present before surgery, but extremely pronounced since I had the Gastro stuff last winter.  I have been able to be more active with my kids and enjoy wearing smaller sizes - Yay!

2 1/3 years post-op

Dec 28, 2010

2 1/3 years post - op  and I am finally losing again.  I was back up to 166 pounds.  Then about 6 weeks ago I caught a virus of sorts and I have not been able to get rid of the diahrea ever since.  I have had some tests run and everything is normal, so far.  So we'll see.  It has been a relief to lose weight again, and since I am tolerating very few foods, it is getting me to think about what I am putting in my mouth.  Happy New Year!

2 years post op - Need to change direction...

Sep 12, 2010

Well, a recent scale reading said 164 lb.  What a battle!  It is so hard not to eat what's in front of you, what everyone else is eating, especially when you are stressed...  So, I have been gearing up to change direction.  I have signed up for a Zumba class at the YMCA, which I am nervous but excited to start in October.  Meanwhile, I am digging out my protein powder shake recipes, and telling people I need to be eating better, with the hopes that I will make necessary changes to get back down to 149 (or less).  I had to post-pone my 2 year post-op appointment due to financial reasons, but will attend it in early November!

20 months post-op & gaining...ugh!

May 04, 2010

Hello All -

I have been coasting for several months now, hovering between 149 - 156, with fairly predictible fluctuations....but now I am scared.  When I weighed in yesterday morning, I weighed a little over 159.  While I realize it is my week of the month to retain water, and I know I ate out more during the past week due to celebrations of my birthday, 159 is unacceptable.  I haven't weighed that much in over a year and I will not be over 160 again!  I am determined.
Thanks to my dear friend Lori at work, we are logging our food intake, and I am trying to be good.  Unfortunately, I struggle at home.  My husband and children fight me every step of the way when it comes to eating healthy.  It is hard to leave it alone if it is there.
Hopefully by writing this, it will help me stay focused on my self-care needs, and get me moving and back-on-track!

150

Nov 07, 2009

I have had a touch of the flu...or some kind of bug.  I have not had much to eat during the past 2-3 days.  At 9:30 this morning I weighed myself with my pjs on and the scale said 150.00.  I have not been 150 lb. or less since 10th or 11th grade; and I was devistated to weigh that much then.  Now I am elated to be 150!  What a difference 20 years can make for ones thinking!

I have been struggling between 152 and 156 for about three months...maybe this illness will be the strange push I needed to get back on the losing band-wagon.

My bone density scan and additional labs all came back good!

I found a new chewable multivitamin that I like.

I even have a new hairstyle...I'll have to update my avatar soon!

Take Care All!

1 yr follow-up visit with surgeon's office

Sep 21, 2009

I met the new nurse, Jen, and the new physician, Dr. Erika Griffen at my surgeon's office today.  They were both very pleasant :-)   The labs that were done turned out great!  I am so relieved to hear that!!  Dr. Griffen ordered a bone density scan and a couple more labs.  It turns out that the lab slip I had turned in for this appointment, which I received at my six month appointment, did not order everything I needed for this one year follow-up, because it was supposed to be for my nine month check-up, which I could not afford to go to.  Oops!  Oh well...they were pleased with my status, so far...and that's all that matters to me.  My BMI went from 43 to 27.  I am allowed to stop taking my Zantac because I have had no heartburn, acid reflux or nauseau.  I can now take a regular multivitamin capsule, instead of chewables, if I want to.  Blood pressure is great.  No edema.  No pain.  Yeah!

1 Year Surgiversary :-)

Aug 28, 2009

I have not had my one year check-up yet due to changing insurance and scheduling issues.  I will be doing that on September 21st.  I am anxious to hear my lab results.  I am feeling good physically.  I am barely losing any more weight.  I have about 17-20 pounds to go.  I have been fluctuating between 155-152 this month.  I have tried to return to logging my food to track my protein and carbs, so that I can be more cautious with my carb intake, but it has been hard to keep up with it.  I am still trying to get my family out of financial duress, otherwise I would have afforded a gym membership so that I can  build some tone/muscle.  I am wearing size 12 and 14 pants and medium or large shirts.  I have been doing better with taking all my supplements each day.  I still look the same as my 11 month picture so I probably won't post a new one for a couple of months.

Smaller Sizes :-)

Aug 07, 2009

I have worn size 12 twice during the past week.  I am fitting into medium shirts.  I even went down to size 7 undies.  Wow!  I seriously do not recall when I was this size last...maybe "junior high" or early high school....hmm!  Yeah me!

11 months post-op RNY

Jul 27, 2009

It's hard to believe it has already been 11 months since my RNY and gall bladder surgeries.

I have lost 80 pounds, give or take 1-3 pounds on any given day.  I confess, I still do not fomally exercise, I feel guilty for not doing so, but I also find it difficult to either schedule it, pay for it, or simply experience the drive to Just Do It!

I have 10 pounds to go to get to my second goal (I reached my first goal 20 pounds ago).  I have 20 pounds to go before I reach my third and final goal.

I'd like to get down one more clothing size, and I'm close.

I do not know my surgeon's goal.  I will try to remember to ask at my one year check-up.

I am very anxious for my one year follow-up lab results.  I suspect something is deficient.  I have been having some weird symptoms around my monthly cycles.  I am wondering about iron deficiency.  We'll find out soon!

I'll try to get my avatar fixed soon and add a current photo too.
