The thing that truly pushed me to go through with this operation is that over the past year I have worked as a Patient Care Technician in the ICU at Alexian Brother Health Center. I have seen young, overweight adults with young children die right in front of me while we where coding them. The cause of death was due to their weight, their body was no longer able to take the strain that was exerted on it and they died. I would see their young kids come to say good bye to their loved one for the last time and not truly understanding what was happening or about to happen. I see and hear the pain and anguish that this family would now endure, and the effect that this will have on these young kids is immense. I realized that this was a very real possibility for me, I am only twenty seven years old and I weigh 304 lbs, I am morbidly obese, I don’t want to leave my wife and family and most of all I don’t want to die!
