Hi Roxanne~ I have Cigna PPO. Really the only thing I needed was a diet history and a letter from the surgeon. I kind of got the run around because my information was missplaced but was approved in 5 weeks. I have had to call them on every claim because of error except 3 charges. Finally getting all of their responsibility paid (I had my wls Oct 18,2002).There are more details on my profile, if you are interested. Hi Roxanne - Please do not worry yourself over statistics. Atually the 1 in 200 statistic is terribly outdated. And even if it wasn't it translates to a 0.5% chance of fatality. Did you know that almost any other surgery performed on anybody has a rate that high? My surgeon has done almost 7000 of these surgeries in his 40 years of practice. He has had only 7 fatalities. Talk to your doc before you let things scare you away. Godspeed to you.

I have Cigna PPO and one requirement is a nutritional consult as opposed to a year of dieting that some have to go through. My preapproval is in as of 9 days ago. I called yesterday for an update and was told it is medical review (I understand that is normal) and should have a response in two days (that is what they said). My doctor's right arm, Carol, said usually they hear in about 7 days. So be encouraged about that. I'll keep you updated.
