1/2 Dome of Bust

Jan 18, 2007

During the Holiday season I actually back slided and gain 30 lbs back. After completing my marathon in October I took a break from my hectic excercise scheduled. And when I mean break I mean break. Instead of running 5 time a week it was down to maybe once a week at time nothing at all, and than instead of going to the gym 4 times a week it was a total stopage.

And than to make thing worst was that almost everyday we would have holiday treats in the office so instead of passing on them like I should I would stop by and graze on the snack. I knew at one point that I had gain some weight back but never in my imagination did I think I would gain 30 lbs.

So once that happened I rededicated myself on my running and excercising. I ran a 1/2 marathon on the first weekend of Janaury and have been doing my running and track work to get back down and to continue to loss weight. I also scheduled myself to run the Camp Pendalton Mud run in June and than in July my running group and I plan to hike upHalf Dome in Yosemite Park. Very excited, best part of this new vigor of excercise and running was that I have already losed 14 lbs in the first 10 days!!!!!

I will update my new plans for this year hopefully now on a monthly basis.

Expanding my horizons

Oct 30, 2006

Since completing my marathon, I have actually started to expand my horizons. I have started to play tennis which I have not played for over 16 years. Like riding a bike I was able to pick it up pretty fast. Still need to work on my serve and back hand but I having a lot of fun playing. Also I been playing a lot more basketball with Team Sapient and will start to run more aggressive in the next few days. I will eventually start my swimming because I found the mini triatholon that I want to do. I will keep you posted on this. That all for now I will write again soon!

What now after accomplishing my goal?

Oct 17, 2006

It's been 2 week after my marathon and my life now has a void that I need to fill?

Training for the marathon has been so consuming for the past 6 months that now that I completed the marathon and I do not need to train 5 time  week there a major void that I need to fill. So after much soul searching I  going to start on a new challenge.

I plan to complete a mini Triathlon sometime next year. Who would think that someone who never really ran before would have completed a Marathon which is 26.2 miles and now train to do a swimming, biking, and running event all done on the same day!

I will keep you update on my progress and let you all know what event I will be doing my Triathlon.

Making the Journey to Running a Marathon with major a road Bloc

Oct 16, 2006

For the past 6 month I have invested hundreds of miles training to run a marathon.  All of that training never prepared me for the possiblity of have a blockage on my bypass 2 day before my marathon.

Being 5 year out I really thought I was safe, I have never had any major problems. Beside the occassional dumping.  So I became complacent  sometime making the wrong choices on what I ate and how fast I would eat, I really started to think that I had a normal stomach. I would eat highly caloric foods with a lot of processed sugars,  did not take time to really chew my food like we're supposed to.

Than it happened the worst pain that I have every felt in my life. It felt like someone took a sledge hammer and hit me in my stomach, I was literially on the floor of my studio writhing in pain and throwing up for 5 hours not knowing what was happening. I was stupid or lucky enough to get up and get in my car and drive myself to the ER.

Once admitted to the ER they took a CAT Scan of my stomach and found a major blockage that was causing the pain. They told me that I would probably have sugery that morning to remove the blockage. All I could think of and say to the Emergency room staff was "Will I be able to run my marathon in 2 days" call me crazy but I had just trained for 6 months to run a marathon.

Luckly the blockage removed itself  I was released from the Hospital in time for me to do my marathon. But before I was released I spoke to the doctor to make sure that It was okay for me to run the marathon. He gave me the green light and 36 hour later I completed my marathon in a safe time of 6 hours 2 minutes.

I will continue to run but not sure I will be doing another marathon, But I will be doing half marathons for sure.
