Changes

Feb 05, 2008

I'm so amazed at how quickly things like appetite can change.  It's been 12 days since I started the high protein/low carb (hplc) diet.  I showed my food diary to a friend today.  At 7 p.m. I had eaten string cheese; almonds; a salad with chicken, cheese, and bacon; and celery and p.b.  I wasn't to my limits yet and hadn't eaten dinner (a protein shake), but was full and not really wanting to eat dinner.  Weird!  I think it's a huge mental change too.  I don't just look for food when I have a few minutes of downtime (maybe that's because I haven't had any downtime lately!).  It's all very interesting to me!

I've become friends with a co-worker who had gastric bypass a few years ago.  She has been so wonderful.  She brought me a bag of goodies yesterday - actually two bags.  One with sippy cups, mini-rubbermaids, an insulated lunch bag and snack-size ziplocs.  The other had 19 pieces of clothing (yes I counted) that no longer fit her but will fit me in the next few months!  And they were all such nice clothes.  I'm especially excited about a black and pink skirt with high heels on it!  Is that me or what?  Thank you Sue!

It's working!

Jan 30, 2008

Well, I've officially been on my high protein/low carb diet for a week.  And drum roll, please.... I've lost 8 lbs!  Yeah!  It hasn't been too hard because I'm super motivated right now but it also hasn't been easy.   Every day I check the nutrition information on something and am amazed at how many carbs it has.  My friends and co-workers continue to be so supportive and cognizant of what I can eat and not eat, etc.  Besides losing weight, this diet is also giving me more energy.  I haven't been going through my day exhausted, just waiting to crash, like I was previously.

44 Days til Surgery

Jan 26, 2008

Well, here's my first post - on this blog or any other.  Today is day 4 of the high protein/low carb diet.  It's been a battle but I'm winning the war ;)  I'm so used to eating when I want, whatever I want (hence my weight problem) that it's been a huge change.  I was so conscious of eating less carbs that my first day I barely ate any.  I succombed to a few m & m's on day 2 but decided a few was better than a huge bag!  It's getting easier every day which is good.  Thanks to everyone for all your support!  I love all the questions you ask because it makes me think even more about everything that's going on.
