2 months post op...not as easy as I though :(

Apr 21, 2009

Well I am 2 months post op and I am surprised at how much I crave food. Everyone keeps saying that I am in the "honey moon" phase. I keep thinking what does that really mean? I am already craving foods and feeling hungry. Nothing I eat tastes good so I don't even want to eat. I am having a really hard time getting all my protien in because I don't want to eat. I am already testing my limits which is not good. I hear that when people test their limits they sometimes get sick. WWell needless to say I didn't :( I was kind of hoping that I would so that would stop me from eating.  I was really bad today and had potato chips. The only plus side right now of this surgery is that I get full real quick. I need to get back on track and see if eating like I should will make me less hungry. I feel almost like I didn't have the surgery in that I still have to use will power to not eat. The surgery didn't help with that. I just hope that in time all that will get better.

1 month post-op...

Mar 16, 2009

Well I am one month post op and I have lost 21 pounds already. Not quite 10% but I am ok with that. My first big goal that I am looking for is to be below 200. I'm am already getting tired of people saying how great I look, or asking how I feel or what I can eat. I mean I only lost 21 pounds and I don't look that different. I think when I lose 60 pounds and look different then make comments. Right now they just feel fake. Like they know I had the suregery so they expect me to lose weight so they feel they have to say something. I am just going to have to find a polite way to ask them to please not comment on every loss but when it is really obvious. My coworkers at my other job didn't know and the surgery and no one has commented on my weight loss...which goes to prove my point.
My youngest daughter who is 15 asked me if I am glad that I had the surgery. I told her at this point the answer would be "No". But I think down the road it will be yes. I am really craving soda's!! I feel like an alcoholic because I crave Soda so much!! I feel nausious almost everyday. When I don't eat, when I do eat and tired a lot. I am surprised at some of the things I can eat...enchiladas, wraps, tuna fish & soft chicken. Although, after 2-3 bites I am full. Things I am tired of eating...jello, pudding, eggs, protien shakes, shrimp, & crakers w/PB. Hopefully my next post will be more inspiring~

Post-OP......

Feb 26, 2009

I am about a week out post-op. Let me just say that the hospital stay at St. Agnes was the worst experience ever! I was so happy to get out of there. I packed all kinds of things that I didn't need. I packed my CD player, books on tape, a book & my iPod. I didn't use any of it!! The only things I used was my own pillow, blanket, armless nightgown, tooth brush & tooth paste.
What really surprised me was how much energy I had when I got home from the hospital. The first night I slept all night but the next few days I had tons of energy. I was so soar that I couldn't sit so all I could do was pace around the house and walk on the treadmill.
The second day out of the hospital I went to the outlet mall with my sister and then to Outback with her, a friend and my daughter. Crazy I know!!!! I told them I could go home first but the convinced me to go. I had a little mashed potatoes, and a couple of bites of New England Clam Chowder. I think the hardest part was watching them eat all that good Outback bread!!! Then the juicy steak!@ But I made it through my first dinner out and only 2 days after surgery!
By the Fourth day out my energy had subsided and my soreness was better so I could actually sit down. I have tried really hard to get in my 50g of Protein every day and my 20-40 min of walking everyday. About 2 weeks out I was able to sleep normally again.
I did get a break out from one of my medications which was not fun but I stopped taking the meds and the rash cleared up with some cream.

I got a Date!!

Feb 01, 2009

My Dr's office called and said that my insurance approved me. I was so excited. They said I was scheduled for Feb 17th. It was exactly around the time I wanted but I had kind of given up on that time frame since I hadn't heard anything. I was really happy when they told me that I didn't have to do the 2 week liquid diet
I did a lot of research before I went into the hospital to see what to expect and what I should pack. I also looked to see what types of food I needed to have on hand when I got home.
Here is what I found that I should have ...Sugar Free Pudding & Sugar Free Jell-O. Chicken Broth, mashed potatoes, scrambles eggs, Sugar Free Apple Sauce and Protein Shakes. That is what I ate for the first week. After the first week I added in crackers, peanut butter, cheese, tuna fish and deviled eggs. Also make sure that you have all your chewable vitamins on hand.

The Process Begins!!!! 12/10/09

Jan 18, 2009

I saw someone at my work who had Gastric Bypass from Dr. Averbach. After talking with her she peeked my interst so I went to the information session. I think the information session was very helpful, especially when it came to telling me what I needed to have done before my first Dr's Appt so that I would be prepared. They said that the average time from start to surgery is about 2 months if there are no problems. I had my doubts about it though.
I meet with Dr. A and didn't feel to good about how it went so I started to have some doubts. I started doing some research, talking to people on the boards about my Dr and other Dr's. After all the great advice I decided to stick with my Dr's. It seems that alot of people had the same concerns that I did in the beginning but they said once you got to know him he opened up. I also sent him and another Dr two similar emails. Dr. A replied right away and answered all of my questions. The ohter Dr took a week and avoided my questions.

During the pre-op testing process my EKG test came back irregular so that I had to do the stress test. That came back ok so I was cleared for surgery!!!!!
