Had the surgery, here's the update:

May 01, 2010

It looks like its been over a month since I wrote anything.  So here's the scoop:

I had my surgery on April 20.  I got there at 10:00 am.  They registered me and got me into my bed.

Once again, they had a hard time finding veins to draw blood and place an IV.  Always the worst part of going to the Drs.  They can never find a vein.  So I got poked MANY times.  Eventually they called in the "IV SPECIALIST".  She apparantly has a knack for finding the veins.  She couldn't find it.  She poked, and nothing happened.  So she said, "I am going to try this hand.  I can't see anything, but I KNOW everyone has one there, so we'll try it."  So she was going to stab me blindly.  Nice.  But, she got it, thank goodness.

My anesthesiologist was really cool.  I thought he was from the UK but my husband thinks he was Australian.  I got rolled into the surgery room which was a bit intimidating.  They had A-Ha playing "Take on Me" on the radio.  It made me feel a little more relaxed.  The dr said, "I'm going to make you sleepy now" and that was the last thing I remember.

I woke up in the recovery room with my husband next to me.  I could hear everything, but could not open my eyes for the life of me.  So I stopped trying.  Eventually I felt them rolling me upstairs to my private room.

I was a bit out of it for a while, and eventually my family left.  I slept for a while, but about midnight I woke up and the nurse had me watch an educational video on tv about the hospital.  About 2 am I decided to try to start walking.  It hurt to get out of bed, but I really needed to use the restroom.  I shuffled my way around, then decided to venture out into the hallways.  I just walked about 30 feet then came back and went back to bed.

Over the next day, I just kept getting up to walk around the hospital and was feeling much better and the pain went away.  Dr. Paya actually said that I could leave that day, one day after my surgery.  I was about ready to go when I suddenly got shaking chills and a slight temperature.  They kept me another night.

The next day, I left and came home.  I was feeling pretty good.  The next day I started walking at the park and did two laps around the park perimeter.  Every day since, I have been walking or doing the Wii.  Its been good.  I've had no pain, and actually wouldnt' even know that I had surgery.

I am, however, sooo tired of liquids.  I've been ONE MONTH on a liquid diet.  I need to chew some food!  I'm looking forward to next week when I can start having creamier things like cream of chicken soup and cream of wheat cereal.

I haven't lost much weight yet since the surgery.  Its been almost 2 weeks and I weight myself a few minutes ago.  Looks like I've lost 8.5 pounds.  Is that a normal loss?  But since I started the liquid diet, I"ve lost about 30 pounds.  Most of that was water weight though.

I am excited my wedding ring fits now though!!!  :)

Had my consultation today!

Mar 23, 2010

Dr. Paya was extremely nice, and we talked and then I asked him after I meet with the nutritionist and take the psych eval how long would it take to get my surgery date.  I told him I was extremely ready to go.  (I have a whole shelf in the pantry dedicated just for me with my vitamins and protiens and little containers and everything).  He said, we can expidite it, then said "Follow me".  He took me up front and told the nurse that I would like my surgery dates expidited, so I have my nutritionist visit in two days, and I have to fax back my psych eval.  The psychologist will call me for a visit over the phone I guess.

EEEEKK!  I can't wait to be able to keep up with my 4 year old!

It's Starting To Go Fast!!!

Mar 17, 2010

AAAHHH!  I am so excited!

So two days ago, on Monday,  I completed my 6 months of education classes and got my certificate!!!!  Its OVER!  I just couldn't wait, so the same day, before I had the class, I scheduled an appointment with my primary.  I got scheduled two days later, for Wednesday.  (Today!)

So I met with my doctor today to get my referral, and I called Dr. Paya's office to schedule an appointment.  I got it for Tuesday at 11am!  I'm soooo excited.  I wonder how long it will take to get the appt for the surgery from here?

Two Classes and a Support Group

Feb 28, 2010

Sounds like a movie... Anyway, people are asking that I blog this, so I better get more on top of writing.

I have two classes left of my 6 month education course...This Monday, March 1st, and again March 15.  Then I can get my surgeon referral!  I have started preparing a little:  I got a Magic Bullet (which I've practiced using a few times lately), some Vitamin B12, water bottles that don't have straws or sippy tops, and I will start getting more vitamins when I get closer to the surgery date.

I went to my first support group on Wednesday.  And I must tell you, there were a LOT more people there than I had imagined.  I was quite impressed with the group.  And everyone has something to say.  And I have to thank Lorrie for helping me so much, she is so encouraging and thoughtful.  She brought me a protien shot, which I have been looking for, and can't seem to find them.  But now at least I know what they look like, so maybe it will be easier to find now.

I am hoping I get my referral pretty quickly, hopefully before my birthday.  This will be a great birthday present for me!  Start the birth of the NEW Tarin!

I am still on the yoyo, I lost 12 pounds and gained it back.  And every day that goes by I find some new part of my body that is uncomfortable or in pain.  If it wasn't for the hope of this surgery, I don't think I'd have much hope at all.  I know I'm not as big as some people, but I think I'm at the limit of what my body can tolerate.  It's too hard to walk much, to hard to sleep, to hard to stand and do dishes.  Soon, it won't be so hard!

You'll probably next hear from me after my last class.  Until then....

Almost ready to start!

Jan 27, 2010

At the insistence of my beautiful and now-skinny cousin, I apparantly need to update this blog, even though  I don't have a clue what to say as nothing has happened yet.

However, I have four classes left (eight weeks) and then I can have my appointment with my surgeon.  From there, I have to see his psychaiatrist, and then I'm in!  I'm thinking about my stay in the hospital already....

The end.

The Beginning...

Sep 18, 2009

I am 2 years into making the decision to have surgery, but on day one of the process.  I have to take a six month education course before I can have the surgery.  The June class was full, so the next class is in two weeks:  October 5.  I just got my profile form to fill out to bring to first day of class.  I can't wait!
