On the losing bench now!

May 05, 2016

Well, my sleeve surgery was May 2.  I don't remember a thing after being given a shot in the pre surgery room(must of been a good one).  Woke up about 5 hours later in my room.  I only got about 5 minutes of sleep every hour on the hour and I went into a-fib during the night, then some kind of nurse or doctor was beside my bed  most of the night with ekg's, xrays, needles blah blah blah.  My nurse got me up at 5:30 am and said I had to sit in the chair....at 5:30?  was it going somewhere, lol.  Anyways I did, right until 8:00 that night with a few walks around the hospital and a MRI and chest xrays again..I think my blood was done 4 or 5 times throughout my 2 day stay.  Anyways, I couldn't imagine feeling any worse  when my nurse said on day 3 everything would feel so much better and she was right.  ALOT different.  I still put my compression band around my waist because it feels so much better to do so.  I've gotten in 6 cups of water today (48oz.) plus two 10oz premier protein shakes so I think I'm doing really well.  I also had a cup of chicken broth.  I think I can probably squeeze in another protein for the night to hit 90g protein.  Oh, I forgot one thing, after my a-fib night, the next morning I had to go to the mri and have a barium drink, through a straw and drink it fast, granted I hadn't drank at all until that point.  Everything I learned in the last 6 months leading up to surgery, no gulping drinks, no straws, whent right out the window.  I looked at them like they lost their minds.  My bariatric nurse was with me.  She is the nicest person ever and said don't worry it will be okay.  So I did it and it didn't hurt at all. Afterwards she said she couldn't believe I drank it so fast.  Shes never seen someone do that, lol.  I'm a rule follower, if you tell me to do it that way I going to, lol.

So to make a long story short, those who said the surgery wasn't to  bad, I call bullshit....it hurts terribly. But I made it through, I am home and recovering nicely. Each day is getting easier and I am beyond thrilled to be on the losers bench!!!
