I have always had a weight problem but it was something that I could control through diet, diet pills and much exercise.

In 1998, I had a bone graft and fusion to my right ankle. My doctor was Saul Trevino Head of Orthographic Department of Baylor. At the time of my surgery Dr. Trevino was Head of Orthographic Department of University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston, Texas, a highly respected surgeon.

The surgery did not go well, I was in and out of a cast for three years, unable to walk and was mostly on my back with my leg up due to the severe pain. My prognosis’s three years later was to have another surgery as the anklebone that was removed was not fused properly and was slipping, per Dr. Trevino.

I refused to do so; I could not even phantom going through anything as painful and debilitating as the surgery on my ankle again and with no guarantee that it would successful.

My weight gain started seven years ago when I broke my right ankle and had to have the bone graft and fusion. I was in an out of a cast for three years unable to walk without a walker and the weight just over came me. I cannot exercise to this day, due to my right ankle; the weight is affecting my good leg and foot.

Dr. Trevino recognized that I was going to be very limited on my ability to exercise (let alone walk) Dr. Trevino was afraid of me developing serious health problems due to the weight that I was steady gaining over the years. He suggested that I have barbaric surgery, to wart off future health problems due to the weight.

Dr. Trevino, requested the Workmen’s Comp insurance company that I have the Bariatric Surgery for reason described (have enclosed Dr. Trevino’s request along with the Insurance Doctor’s response). I went to the insurance’s doctor in 2003 and he said that would not be needed. Two years later, I developed Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Neuropathy in my feet.

During this time, I have tried all types of Diets, with failure and more weight gain. My results from the Methodist Willowbrook Hospital New Direction program was a failure due to diabetes and high blood pressure, I am now at 250 pound, 51 inch waist and do not have the ability to exercise due to the disability in my right ankle.

It is a miracle that I can walk, function, I am self-supporting and refused to classify as disabled! I need help to control this weight problem and live my life to the fullest.

I have tried all types and means of losing weight just to lose weight and gain it back plus. I would always regain the weight, as I would have an overwhelming need to start on an eating binge, it seemed like when I reached the 40 pound loss mark this would happen. I have tried the following means of losing weight and with failure:

Quick Weight Loss
Diabetic Diet
South Beach Diet
Diet Pills w/Doctor Supervision
Akins’s Diet
Every diet fad known
New Direction Weight Management

Please provide me with the required information to go forward with the Lap Band procedure.
