6 months have come and gone!

Mar 18, 2010

Wow! I can't believe that it has been 6 months since my surgery. I haven't blogged since 1 week out, but I have been keeping up with everyone and I am so proud to be a part of this family. I am down 75 pounds as of today, with about 45 more to go. All and all this journey has been good and I don't regret it at all. I have had some stalls that frustrated me; but from what I can tell, that is part of the process.

I started going to the gym after my 2 month appointment and now I go 4 days/ week. I am doing cardio all four days and weights 3 of the four. I have gone from size 26 to size 16! I haven't worn a size 16 since high school! All of my shoes are too big, I think I have gone down 1/2 size.

The only medical issues I am having are low iron and blood pressure. I'm probably gonna have to have an iron infusion. My blood pressure has started going up, so instead of coming off the meds, we have added. Not sure what that is all about!?!

I have been getting really good support from close friends and co-workers! Can we say GRATEFUL!!!!!
I can't even begin to explain to you how much better I feel right now, even with bp issues! I don't have diabetes anymore and that in itself is enough to make this all worthwhile!

I am still having to drink shakes to get all of my protein in; so I am glad that I found one that I absolutely love. Nectar Sweets Chocolate Truffle! I started with Isopure, but after awhile the after taste got on my nerves. The only foods that I have trouble with are chicken and turkey; which saddens me. I will keep trying though because..well I just have to~

My 6 month follow up with my surgeon is this coming Monday, so we will see what he has to say. My primary care doc has been very helpful and supportive. I saw the program psychologist on this past Monday and he was very proud of my accomplishments thus far.

Well, I guess I'm done rambling for now. I pray that everyone's weight loss journey will continue and that we all become and remain healthier and happier!

I Made It Over!

Sep 21, 2009

Today is one week since my surgery! Thus far I can say I have had NO complications . I had my first follow up visit with the surgeon on yesterday....wait for it........12 pounds lost  My hospital stay (2 days) went well (except for a roommate from #%**) I would have to say the worst expererience has been pain on my left side-Ugh!

I get to eat a scrambled egg this morning- (am so looking forward to chewing). I have worked my walking back to 30 minutes; not without some tiredness, but I'm pretty sure that is all a part of the process.  I started my multivitamin and suppliment regimen this morning (chewables).

Oh yeah, we stopped my blood pressure meds when I left the hospital cuz my BP was so good....but it shot back up. So I am taking one of my pills again until I see my PCP tomorrow. I think the surgeons get real excited to see us "cured" from all co-morbities and jump the gun a bit on medication, but it's all good, cuz when I get more weight off-I can stop the meds for sure.
Another HUGE deal....my blood sugar....has dropped 30 points I have been checking everyday and it is not going back up! Thank God!

Ok, I guess I have rambled enough...I'm gonna go walk so I can eat my wonderful breakfast! Please keep me in your prayers and I do for all of you. LET'S DO THIS THING!

T minus 24 hours!

Sep 13, 2009

Well family,
The time has finally arrived! My surgery is tomorrow. It seems like just yesterday I was whining about how long the process was taking. I have so many emotions right now but I'm mostly grateful! I'm grateful for this opportunity to become a healthier me. I have received so much positive support from friends and even my mom has come around a little bit. For that I thank God!  She won't be here for the surgery, but it's all good!

I'm looking forward to being on the loser's bench! See ya soon

29 Days and Counting!

Aug 17, 2009

Whew Lawd! I have less than a month until my new beginning! I thought I would be pretty calm, cool and collected up until about a week out.........Let me tell you what, I am a ball of emotions!  Surely this is normal, so I'm going to continue with my plan to work on all of the things I "have" to do after surgery like walking, sipping, chewing etc. so they won't be so hard when the time comes.

I finally told my family the surgery date and everybody was pretty cool. My birthday is this Sunday, so I'm gonna go home this weekend and celebrate with my family. My mom is still not too keen on the idea of surgery, but hey, It's my life. Right? She won't be coming for the surgery, none of my family will-but I have a great support group of friends that will be here. My best friend had RNY in October 08, and she has lost 140 lbs so far and is doing great!

I have learned so much here on OH, it has really been a good thing!

All is well

Jul 27, 2009

My EGD was on Friday afternoon. Everything went well, the results came back normal. Thank God! 49 days and counting. I haven't told my family the date of surgery yet. I'm not sure when I want to tell them. They (well, my mother) has not been very supportive of the surgery. She does not live here in town and I don't expect her to come for the surgery. I have some great friends for support. My siblings have been indifferent about the surgery, so I imagine I will tell them all at the same time.
Anyway......I'm just grateful that it is really going to happen. I am going to be healthier-It has been a long time since I have felt really well.

EGD tomorrow

Jul 23, 2009

Wow, things are moving really fast. The gastro docs office called today to make my appointment for the EGD and someone had cancelled, so it is tomorrow. After I got off of the phone, I had my first break down. I'm not really sure why, but I just sat in my cubicle and cried. Hopefully this is normal, because now I feel great and ready to get this party started.
54 days and counting!!!!!

I got my surgery date!

Jul 20, 2009

September 15, 2009 @ 0730 is the day!
I had my first appointment with my surgeon today. Actually I saw him the least amount of time. I spent more time with the nurses and filling out MORE paperwork. But I am not complaining. I dropped another couple of pounds (yeah!) also. I really didn't have many questions or concerns at this point, so IT'S ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see my surgeon on 7/20/09 and will get my surgery date then. I can't believe it is really going to happen! My starting wt was 280lbs, I am down to 271 lbs today, my goal is 140lbs. I'm sure when I get my actual surgery date, I will share more of my story with you.
