Steph anie
I started my serious weight loss journey in April 2008 by attending Dr. Stewart's WLS seminar. On September 22, 2008, I was being wheeled into the OR to undergo the surgery that saved my life--the DS (duodenal switch.)
Many people are initially concerned over undergoing a malabsorptive procedure. To be honest, I had to realize that a life time of dieting taught me that lifestyle change was not enough to help me reach a normal (healthy) weight, I needed biological alteration to make my body work the way that it "should."
My life has changed in so many ways since that September day. Through the process of shedding my weight, I have found myself. I am no longer a slave to food or my own insecurities. I can conceptualize that I deserve to be happy. I no longer reside inside the darkness of fear. I am free to live inside the light.
My only regret is waiting so long before realizing that I am worthy of happiness. I can only imagine the needless years of physical and emotional suffering that I could have avoided by getting the DS earlier.
