I'm home!

Feb 10, 2007

My surgery was scheduled for 7am, Thursday, February 8th. Josh and I got to the Pitt County Memorial Hospital at 5:24, I was supposed to be there at 5:15, but they were ready for me when I got there.
I changed into my gown and had blood drawn, and a blood thinner injection and gave a urine sample. The nures tried to place the IV, but was not able to find a good vein, I've always had trouble with my "bad veins".
After that I was taken to anesthesia, and the anesthesia nurse was able to get an IV placed, but it took her a while to find a good vein. Up to this point I still had this gnawing feeling that the would send me home without my surgery. When the nurse said she was going to give me something to relax, I knew it was relly happening.
I remember being taken to the OR and moving onto the operating table, and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery with a sore belly.
I was in recovery for a little while before they let Josh come in to see me. Josh told me the operation took less time than expected, and the Dr. Chapman told him I had done very well.
I wasn't long before I was taken to my room, and I guess I slept most of the day after that. Later in the evening a nurse came and asked me if I was ready to try walking. I was still very sore, but I knew it was importantant to get moving to avoid blood clots.
I still can't believe the surgery is actually over with.
I will be drinking 2 ounces of Boost, 3 times a day for the next two weeks. It tastes pretty good, but I am worried, because, even just 3 days post op, I am craving pizza and barbaque potato chips.
The first thing I did when I got home was get on the scale, yesterday it read 297, today it says 293, I weighed 300 the morning of surgery. So I've already lost 7 pounds, in 3 days!

2 weeks till my history and physical visit

Jan 23, 2007

My pre-op visit is 2 weeks from today, I am starting a liquid diet so I can lose the 8 pounds I've gained since my first visit with Dr. Chapman. I am afraid this is going to be greuling, but I am up for the challenge.
