Hello All

May 29, 2011

Well it's been a while since I've posted. Yesterday it was 5 months out for me. The last time I posted I was sick of eating all the proten and basically stopped like I usually do at the  three month mark. This time I maintained my weight loss and actually lost 5 lbs during the 2 month DS hiatis. Just being honest. I also took a break from the boards too.  Well I decided to check back in and see what was going on saw a few people who had surgery around the same time I did and they are almost down 100 lbs ...I said " WHAT THE !!! "   That made me kick it in gear I lost 5lbs this week . YAY !!!!  So that makes me 3lbs away from l,osing 100 lbs from my highest weight.

I think I slowed the weight loss because as I've mentioned before, I am afraid of the saggy skin My boobs are flat as pancakes, starting to get the batwings. My thighs are horrible deflated and wobbly.   I had more confidence last summer in my bathingsuit than I will this year. Everything was filled out. I'm gonna have to swim in a Body Magic or Spanx.

I know a lot of you are wondering what we eat ... I eat bacon lots of bacon, angus hamburger patties with onion soup mix, polish sausage and mustard, protein shakes and Crystal Light.

I've gone from a size 34/36 tops to a size 26/28 some 22/24's and a size 32 pants size to a 26 and some 24's I know this is where a lot of you are starting ... I feel so good I have tons of energy.

13 weeks out.....

Mar 29, 2011

Hello all it's time to update. I am 13 weeks out today.  I weighed in this morning at 306 almost to two-der-ville  Whoo Hooo !!!  I know alot of you are looking at this and saying she hasn't lost too much.  My highest weight was 389 surgery weight was 350 in 13 wks I've lost 44lbs since surgery almost effortlessly .... The DS is a slower losing surgery I might be 10 behind the others who are 13 weeks out. If you are comparing.  My weight loss may be slow but I feel great !!!! This was the best decision I ever made.

I have to be honest with you guys. The past 2 maybe 3 weeks  I've gotten burned out with the protein protein !!! protein !!! protein !!! OMG ! But I still lost. I ate what I wanted within reason and I still took my vitamins. I am so happy I chose the DS I feel so normal. I have to also confess I may be subconsciously losing slowly  on purpose. Due to the fact that I've lost a total 83lbs my body is deflating and I'm scared of the  saggy skin and thinking if I lose at a slower pace I may look better as I lose.  Yesterday I made a conscious effort to get back on track and lost 2lbs. YAY !!!! Hoping to be at 299 next week. Did I mention I feel GREAT !!!     I'm losing inches even though the scale hasn't moved that much. At 389 I wore a size 34/36  6X top and 32 pants today I wear a 26/28 top and a 28 dress and I can wear  a size 26 suit comfortably. WOW !!!

I haven't exercised yet either.  I had open surgery so I don't wnat to up my chance of getting a hernia. I go out occasionally to dance and look pretty LOL.  I will update more later.

update

Feb 21, 2011

Today I am 8 wks out. I weighed in this morning at 316 YAAAY !!! I am down 34lbs since surgey, and down 73 lbs since my highest weight of 389 in Jan. 2010. The weight loss is with this surgery is a little slower than the other surgeries from what I've observed. This is the only WLS I've had so I have nothing personally to compare it to. LOL Anywho.

The DS way of life does take some getting used to. I am starting to get in the habit of taking my vitamins instead of forcing myself to take them. It's officially a way of life for me now. I sure do cook a lot more. I used  to eat  out a lot. I still do at lunch when I'm at work.  But most of my meals prior to surgery were handed to me through a drive thru window.  the one thing that I can't get used to is all the fat and grease and meats and artery clogging cheeses and cholesterol  ... OMG!!! Looking at it makes me think I'm going to keel over in 5 seconds from a heart attack. I have to keep telling myself that it's okay. It's almost grossing me out LOL ! I want some lettuce in my life. I tried to eat some like 2 leaves of lettuce it was not a pretty picture. I was cramping and in the bathroom for half the day. Needless to say I know to stay away from salad for the time being.

I'm kinda glad the weight loss is a little slower because look very healthy.I don't look sick. I'm not going through new clothes sizes every other day, so financially it's not breaking me that way.  Hopefully with a slow and steady weight loss the skin won't be as saggy. Just a thought.  My grocery bill and vitamins are where the money comes in. If you can buy your vitamins in bulk please do.

How do I feel ? So far so good. I don't feel anything different on the inside. I feel normal , there is still a very slight tender spot when I try to lay on my stomach.

Any other ?'s feel free to ask.

Protein Protein Protein

Jan 29, 2011

Can't say it enough. Protein is the name of the game. I read a post that says when all is said and done you should be taking in 120 180 grams of protein daily ... WOW. I was doing like 30, I'm going to up my intake and see what happens. I know I'm still healing .... but, I'll be going back to work soon and I need to get my routine down.  That was my thought 2 days ago, I upped my intake Saturday, man it is an all day job .... OMG !! Like I said I'll keep you posted on what happens. I have to do something I'm tired of bouncing the same 2 and 3 lbs back and forth.

I'm 4 wks out and still only down 23lbs. My weight has been bouncing back and forth between 327 and 330 for the past 3 wks. I'm being told that's normal with the Duodenal Switch , So I'm going to hang in there and try to be patient.  But I am happy to report I am down a clothing size. YAAAAY!!!

My Journey

Dec 10, 2010

My journey started 10 years ago. That's when I started researching WLS. Really going going at it aggressively 4 yrs ago 2007. I found out my insurance required a 12 month supervised diet and PCP visits. I got discouraged and didn't do it. I was going through Barix at the time, they called back about 6 months later and said the insurance lowered the requirements to 6 months I said okay and that was doable so I started the visits a couple of months after that. I went through all that to get denied due to not enough documentation.

Barix called back some time later to say they lowered the requirements again to 3 months I said I can definitely do that, so I signed up for Medical Weight Loss, tried it again. Got my paperwork to Barix and said I have more to give you, they sent the paperwork in incomplete of course I was denied. So now I'm on my 2nd denial. I got all the paperwork in to Barix and got my third denial due to not enough documentation.

I went to see Dr.Michael Wood he and Dr. Sapala invented the Sapala-Wood pouch, which is smaller than the regular pouch. The secret they say is the size of the pouch. Anyhoo for some reason I wasn't feeling him so I chilled for a while and ate my self up to my highest weight ever 389 !!! that was January 2010 By this time I'm suffering with all the obesity related health problems .....

My health was failing I now had type II diabetes, HBP, sleep apnea, skin rashes, osteoarthritis in my knees. that's when I started making a conscious effort to change my eating habits I lost a few pounds but nothing to make a  big difference in my weight,  But what was different this time is I kept it off for like 6 months that's when I knew I was really ready for weight loss surgery....

In August 2010 I was having trouble with my computer at work they called in a computer tech to fix the computers. We were talking and out  ofthe blue he says I just had GB ... My eyes lit up I asked him all kinds of questions. I was asking him bcuz our insurance is hard to get an approval he proceeded to tell me he went to Dr. Hares through St. John Providence. I made my seminar appointment for September 8th. I proceeded to do my 3 month appointments, paperwork was submitted to the insurance on Nov 21st. I was finally approved around Dec.2nd and scheduled for surgery Dec 28th 2010 YAAAAYYYY !!!!

This gave me no time to prepare for surgery, I hadn't started Christmas shopping, and to top things off I just started a new job so I was in training. I'm going through a divorce so I did all my running around by myself.

Dec. 28th, 2010

Fast forward to surgery day ......

I was scheduled for surgery at 7am so I had to arrive at 5am. I had my mom and dad with me. All I remember is getting the epidural and being rolled in to surgery at 7:30am It was very cold in the OR. I was told to get on a different table and to put my arms out to the side  next thing I remember is waking up and being rolled to my room  I think it was close to 2pm by this time.

I can't say enough about the staff and nurses on the 6th floor at St. John Providence. OMG !!! They were fantastic !!! I didn't want for anything didn't have to wait for anything, one of the nurses even prayed with me I was so scared my heart rate started going up. I had a 4 day hospital stay

My Recovery.......

I went for the Duodenal Switch known as DS.  I'm currently 18 days out and down 22lbs. My surgery was open therefore I have an 8 inch incision and my staples are still in. I have my first follow this Monday I hope to get them out then .

Recovery has been uneventful so far. With this open incision getting comfortable has been challenging.  If  I were able to exercise I'm sure I would be down a little more, but I'm not in a hurry, I didn' t put the weight on overnight.

I'm surprised at what I can eat so early out and how much.

That's it for now. I will keep you updated. Thanks for reading my story and following my journey.
