Snuck in, literally!

Jun 10, 2020

Hi all! I was able to sneak my surgery in, but it was close. I had my surgery March 24th, the DAY BEFORE the governor cancelled elective surgeries!

I'm less than 90 days post-op, and WOW, what a difference! Down 61 lbs, my BP is continuously in the Normal range, and I've stopped wearing my CPAP mask at night.

So very thankful. So very thankful.

Fifteen Days...

Mar 09, 2020

Fifteen days to go. Very nervous.

Friends and family are beginning to ask if I’m sure I want to do this, or if I’ve tried this cleanse or that diet. 5eyre viewing MY life using THEIR lenses. I can fully understand, but no thank you. As I advised one mother, I’ve tried so many things, only to see my weight spring back a few months later. This is “the biggest tool in the drawer”, giving me the highest chance at successful health management.

Cooked up a bunch of tofu, as a demonstration of my morning protein add. My surgeon does not recommend shakes or smoothies, and his practice is listed as a bariatric surgery center of excellence, so i’ll stick to the firmer food if I can.

Two weeks and a “wake up”.

Starting to make plans...

Feb 29, 2020

Less than four weeks pre-op.  REALLY looking forward to this.

I have concerns, but they're mostly related to my post-op support structure.  True, my wife had the exact same surgery in 2004, and she's still 100+ lbs down, but she doesn't exactly have healthy eating habits.  Her favorite food is frozen Stouffer's spaghetti with meat sauce with extra cheese on top, and her favorite restaurant is Famous Dave's.  I've been trying to help us (both) eat healthier, and she does agree to eat - and frequently says she likes - what I fix.  But left to her own devices, she falls back to her lifelong poor eating habits.  So from MY perspective, I can't really consider her to be part of any support mechanism for my lifelong WLS journey.  She's STILL coming to me and trying to push fried foods, candy, cookies, and the like, which I find very hard to resist (not because I can't resist the FOOD, but I find it difficult to say no to HER.  So my #1 concern is that, in order to safely insulate myself from improper FOOD, I'm going to have to insulate myself from MY WIFE.

Don't like that thought at all.  We're a team, through thick and thin.  Lord help me to stay close to her and still manage my food intake.

Almost done with prep

Feb 07, 2020

Well, the saga is about to begin.

I finally found a health insurance plan that will cover my surgery,  and have made all of the preliminary steps. The two remaining steps are to meet with my psychologist tomorrow, and to have my final meeting with the nutritionist on Thursday.

If all goes as expected, Lord willing, I will have a surgery date in early March 2020

I am SO excited!
