My weight has been yo-yoing since age 11. I look back in photos and I see a normal sized child up to age 11. I’m not sure if puberty affected my weight or bad eating habits. My weight would yo-yo between chunky and overweight until graduation. Since High School, my weight has escalated higher and higher.
When I began considering WLS, I made a list of my diets for the last 20 years. I have been on every major diet at least once. I have even been able to find receipts on the most expensive diets and they total over $10,000.00. While I was on a diet, I would loose some weight and afterwards I would put back twice as much. When you see me today, I have nothing to show for the money or effort, my weight is now higher than ever.
In Oct 2006, I started thinking about surgery and looking at insurance. I finally had a solid plan of attack by mid-November. At the end of November 2006, I met with my PCP and told him my plan. My PCP then referred my to my medical groups Bariatic Education Classes.
Here we are in February 2007(that’s the soonest I could get in) and Last night, I took my first step towards WLS. I attended my first Bariatic Education Class required by my medical group.
