2nd Goal Met and Christmas Wish Came True!!!

Dec 27, 2011

My wish this year was to reach 100lbs loss by Christmas.  I did it, yeah!!!     Now I am only 63 lbs away from the goal weight I set in the beginning of this journey.  It no longer seems like it's an impossible task.  I have enjoyed the new food and lifestyle change I have made.  I love Zumba and just excercising.  This surgery has been a life saver and a true blessing.  2012 is going to be an awesome year with a whole new me.

100 lbs gone ... just right around the corner!

Nov 28, 2011

I am 89 lbs down and just 11 more to go until I hit my 2nd goal of 100lbs gone!

Things are going great.  I have no complications, off my blood pressure meds, and no lower back pain.  I love how I feel and the energy that I have.  I am working out, being active with my family, and having tons of fun trying out new healthier recipes. Thanksgiving went great.  We made it a healthier one and I didn't feel like I was left out or deprived of good food.

First Goal Reached!!

Aug 07, 2011

I have set my goals at 50lbs losses (because 150, looks like a such a huge number, so I set smaller goals).  I did my weekly weigh in this morning, and I have lost 51lbs total!    So I have reached my first goal on this weight loss journey.  My back (I have a herniated disc) has not hurt, my ankles no longer swell, I'm down 2 shirt sizes, and a pant size.  I have so much energy and just feel like moving, moving, and moving.  This is so different thant the sedentiary lifestyle that I led for years before this.  Even with the minor issues (no appetite, constipation, etc.), I do not regret having this surgery.  Well, my only regret is just not doing it sooner.  I just turned 40 and have a "new" me, so I have lots of living to do to now and enjoying all of it!  Well, here's to the next 50!

Almost a Month Post-Op

Jul 17, 2011

I haven't updated this in a while.  Surgery went alright.  Now, I'm not going to white wash it at all, it hurt like hell.   I was in a lot of pain the first week.  Everyone kept on telling me it'll get better, but I truly didn't want to believe them.  However, it did and things have been going pretty good. I have had no complications, yeah!

I am so glad that I did not have to be on liquids/purees for long period of time.  I was allowed soft foods on day 5.  I have been handling most things.  Right now, I cannot do tuna, salmon or any beef.  I'll give those a try in another month or so.  I so miss fresh veggies and fruits right now, but I can have them in 2 weeks.  My tomato plants are doing so well and I cannot eat any of it.    I have been out to eat 4 times since the surgery and love it that my hubby and I share one meal.  It makes eating out much cheaper, and we're able to do it more often.  It's one of our favorite things to do is to try new places.  Still have trouble getting in all my liquids, but I will keep on trying.

This has definitely been a learning experience, but I am so glad that I did it.  I have lost 38 lbs so far, was able to buy a 3X in a regular department store, and need a belt for my pants.    Even with all the pain I have gone through, I would do this again in a heartbeat.  The only regret is that I wish I had done it sooner.  My son is 15, and I missed so much due to the weight.  Well, we're definitely gonna be making that up soon.  We're already planning weekend trips, outings, etc.  next summer!

It's Nothing But Smooth Sailing From Here On

Jun 16, 2011

Well, I am all cleared for surgery!   Test is negative and the only new thing is that my surgeon is going to remove my gall bladder at the same time.  My pre-admission testing showed some large stones that will cause me issues as I lose weight in the future.  All I have left to do this weekend is to purchase some items for the hospital stay and recovery at home.  Then a nice celebration for Father's day and my 40th birthday  (2 weeks early due to the surgey) this Saturday (my one night off the pre-op diet) with my family and friends.

Bump in the Road

Jun 10, 2011

I am very excited about my upcoming surgery.  I have everything planned, leave approved at work, things all ready for the long time off, etc.  My house is cleaned and stocked.  2 days ago, I rec'd a call from my surgeon telling me that my MRSA test came back positive. Now, I do not have MRSA, just carrying it.  She called me in a 5 day nasal treatment, ick.  I go back to her on Tuesday to see if my test is negative.  If it is positive, they'll have to reschedule the surgery.  I am so worried that it wont be negative.  I am so ready for this surgery.  I have all my paperwork in for my leave and both my hubby and mom have their vacay leaves approved. The good thing she did say was that they never had anyone retest positive.  So hoping and praying I am not that one.

Insurance Approved & WLS Date Set

May 17, 2011

Well, it took a month to get it approved, but they did. Yeah.  I have my date set for June 21, 2011.  I really wanted the following week as we have a big family reunion weekend on the 24th & 25th, but that's okay.  I am just excited to get this done, and my family will understand.  I have been doing lots of reading; doing some research; thoroughly cleaning my house; getting things at work prepared for a long leave; attending support group meetings; and that's it until surgery date!
