My story...let me see...overweight when i was a child, parents had me on diet pills at 14, I lost alot of weight and kept it off for years. Then it happened...150...160...170..got divorced and lost down to 138.
boy i looked great...new husband and new blended family. He was in the Army so we traveled the world together. then age creeped up...so did the weight, (he is still thin) He retired and we settled down, now we are in NC (We love  it here) A couple of weeks ago a Patient came into our office to get her medical records and i was the on to talk to her.(I thank God Every day for that pt coming in ) she saved my life, she told me that she was having gastric bypass surgery and that she was having it at Ft Bragg, wow, stupid me...i did not know that they did gastric bypass at the fort!!!!!
I talked to my pcp and she sent the request on monday the insurance co called the next day!!! "contact ft bragg" well she didn't have to tell me twice.....on 8/21/08 went for orientation, sent all my records to them and they called and told me to schedule my psych and nutrition appts. The process takes 3-4 months, there are classes and support groups that you HAVE to attend, 3 each and they are held monthly, weigh ins and meeting with the dr and her staff. Thank God the Military cares for it's family.
there were 26 people at my orientation, alot of them were just getting infomation, the rest of us had done our research and were commited to WLS.  I should have all the requirements done by november, but with the surgery schedule, i am looking at January. my birthday and my re-birthday in the same month!!!!
I mentioned that my sister was also having WLS, she lives In indianapolis, In and is waiting for her insurance to approve it, hers will be before mine, she hasn't got as many hoops to jump through, she could have hers as early as a couple of weeks, I pray she does, then she can help me through mine...lol ...long distance ..lol
My husband is supporting my choice he loves me the way i am, and says no matter what he will be here, surgery or not. He says he married ME not my weight, ( what a sweetheart, think i will keep him,) yes he has a brother,...lol...
My grandson is worried about me, he says he don't want me to die. i have tried to tell him that without this surgery it might happen sooner than later. I have let him read all the information i have and he understands now.. why i want to do this (we've had custody of him since he was a baby,,, almost 13 yrs old now...going on 21..lol) this is long but i am 55 and have lived a full life and lookin forward to 50 or so more years.......long enough to be a pain in the but tfor my kids and grandkids......
thanks for reading this.....please email me i love to talk .....jody
