I am still here! ( second fill visit )

Aug 29, 2008

Sorry that I have not posted. The past few weeks have been rough. The Band is in and doing well. I found out that weight loss  can have other
outcomes. I feel GOOD! I went out and did a tremendous amount of yard work and got terrible poison ivy. I was on Prednisone twice in the past month. Despite this setback, my weight loss continued as I was very careful what I ate and exercised like crazy. I lost 9 lbs in 8 weeks, not bad considering the steroids. The other rough thing about summer was that I had to attend a funeral for a daughter of a close friend and then another friend had open heart surgery today.  I know that this is just life and I am a person of faith. I see that somewhere in this there must be a higher purpose. It does make you think about life in a different way...
Love to all out there... Susan

The First Fill !

Jun 29, 2008

I went to the surgeon's office on Monday for my first fill. It went well. It was a whopping 5cc in a 10 cc band. Dr. Halmi asked me a lot of questions and explained what he was going to do. I was laying down on the exam table and he accessed my port on the first stick. I then sat up and drank some water and it was all good it did not hurt at all. I return in a month.
I do feel better now. Lap band Hell is no fun. You work like crazy to lose weight but your appetite comes back with a vengence. I re-gained 4 lbs. Since the fill, in the past few days, I have lost the four that I had gained back. I have also decided to go to counseling to help with the head hunger and food withdrawal issues. It is beginning to help me a lot.
I also have to remember that I have done well with all of this. My goal is to have 50 lbs. gone by October. That will be the one year mark of when I started all of this process and I went to the informational seminar. I feel that it is a reasonable goal for me.

Yes, I would do it again!

I finally had surgery two weeks ago. It is all a blur. I do feel better although am a bit weak. What did I expect? It is still major surgery even though not as involved as an RNY. I do notice improvement every day. I was able to get off pain meds within three days. The worst part was diarrhea but that too resolved in five days. I was able to sleep on my side within four days. I was able to drive within a week.
My problem is that I am one of those people who always want to do MORE! Right now I have to listen to my body, if it says to rest. I must do that. Would I do it again? Oh yes. I am already on half of my blood pressure medication! That is huge. I go back to work next Thursday, I work at a hospital on my feet and am limited to eight hours for the first week then I can do the 12 hour shifts again.

The final countdown...

Apr 20, 2008

Just finished my last week at work , for the next three weeks anyway.
I  am worn out, I just spent two days really cleaning my house and getting the appropriate foods stocked in my kitchen. Wednesday is the big day.
My wonderful friends from work will be helping me out during and after the surgery for a few days. Hopefully, this time next week the worse will be over with. I have had laparoscopic surgery before and do not look forward to the shoulder pain but the key is walk, walk, walk! Thanks for everything folks!

The final visit...

Apr 08, 2008

Went to Dr. Halmi's office yesrterday. All is well for the surgery and now I have even set up post-op appointments for the surgeon, primary care and pulmonologist. Also have the RD stuff set up too. I'm going to need a vacation after all of this stuff...

Testing...and more testing...

Mar 25, 2008

I can't believe that another month has gone by... I am doing my pre-op stuff
now. So far all of the tests are OK. Just got clearance from Pulmonary medicine and my  PCP is tomorrow. Fair Oaks on Monday for labs and upper GI. I just want the surgery to be over with, it has been a long six months. Thanks for all of the support!

Moving right along...

Feb 16, 2008

Sorry that I have not posted in a while. So much is going on. I am trying to do some required things for work and get my income taxes done. I really want just to relax after the surgery and not have anything pending. My cousin will not be coming up to stay with me as she has some health concerns. I have to get one of my friends to stay with me the first night after I come home.
Actually, it is probably better this way. I would feel as if I had to "entertain"
someone at home and I will be more rested this way. My pre-op visit is March 5th and my surgery has been rescheduled to April 23. I have all of the required stuff at home now, I just want it over with!

I Have A Date!

Jan 13, 2008

I called my surgeon's office on Friday and was told that I had been approved.
Then I spoke with my boss about selecting a date. As this surgery is elective, I must pick a date to be off at work when no one else has selected a vacation. So my date is April 16th. It is actually good for me, I wanted to lose more weight. I would like to be down 30 lbs before surgery. It should help with the outcome. Still waiting on Lincare for the CPAP machine...

Happy New year (2008 Off to a rocky start)

Jan 09, 2008

Well it is a new year, exciting and yet stressful at the same time.
I have a lot of bills to pay and I am trying to make sure that all of the  records end up at the surgeon's office. I called them last  week and they had
very little. I worked so hard to get here and now am freaking out a little!
I had another Dr. appt today and he told me that I was normal for the circumstance . Thanks to my OH friends for listening to me and keeping me encouraged and calm.

Sleep study  #2  gave me  orders for CPAP and the home care company called me today to get the ball rolling. I hope the machine will help me get better quality sleep. I think that I can do this...

Merry Christmas Everyone 12/23/07

Dec 23, 2007

The past few months have gone by so very fast. When I went to the seminar it was the first weekend in October. I have no completed my Aetna required three month supervised program. It was at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital. Despite having to make a few schedule changes at work... it was well worth it! I have lost 16-18 lbs. and I feel so much better. It now goes over to insurance. Hopefully, they will approve me.

It was hard working full time and doing all of the requirements. One day I broke down at work because I felt so stressed out. I have to learn to say "No"
more often and to take better care of myself while I wait for surgery.
Most everyone has been very supportive to me which is a great help.

I know that most of my friends still don't get the psych stuff that goes along with it. That is why I have OH and my support group. Part of this battle is also mental and this will continue after surgery as well. A big Thank You to all who have been there for me. I hope you all have a Happy 2008.
