Sharon's Story
Nov 12, 2008
Hi, My name is Sharon and this is my story:
I've always been overweight, okay, I'll admit it Morbidly Obese. About 3 years ago I had to have my thyroid totally removed. After that, it's been gain, gain, and more gain. My endocrynologist suggested I look into weight loss surgery. I know a few people who had the RNY and are doing wonderful . I decided to go the surgeon that one of my friends had his surgery done by. In May 2008, I signed up for a class to go over all the weight loss procedures done by my surgeons (Heather McMullen and Jeff Nicastro at Staten Island University Hospital) Needless to say, I was researching the RNY when I found the DS. After hearing about the DS in the class, I changed my mind and no longer wanted the RYN, it's DS all the way baby. I can't believe how many tests I had to take before getting approved for the DS but it finally happened: In October I was approved for my surgery on 12/1/08
