Okay ... so this is supposed to be 'my story' ... but the thing is, it's pretty much the same as everyone elses story too.  oh well, here goes ...

as a child i was a healthy looking child ... then as i became a teenager i kind of became a little more leaner ... in fact, i was quite slim.  i remember having a hard time getting jeans to fit me ... 24 inch waist and 34 inch leg.  not a popular size.  i loved those painter pants ... they fit great!!  as i had no butt and was all legs!  ha, ha, ha!

i tend to think my weight started coming on after my Mom died.  i was 17, she was 47.  yeah, pretty young.  too young actually to lose a Mother.  and too young for a Mother too!  i kind of think that is when the weight started coming on ... gradually.  then, as life went on and different negative happenings in my life (not to worry, i'll spare you) more weight came on, etc., ect., etc., need i say more?

so, yes, i was an emotional eater ... and i have a TON of emotions!!  ha, ha, ha!  yes, at least i can now laugh about it.  and did you notice i said 'was' an emotional eater ... yes, i'm thinking positive!  well, trying.

anyway, over the last 20 years (i am now 46) i have been battling my weight and trying anything and everything, from doctor supervised diets to fad diets ... to even diet pills.  i've done weight watchers to atkins ... you name it, i'm sure i've tried it.  heck, i've got all the books to show for it too ... but unfortunately no less poundage to show.  darn!

so ... for the last 4 or 5 years i've been looking into weight loss surgery and i was originally looking at lapbanding, as at that time it would have been appropriate for me ... however, over those years my weight has continually gone up.  so now, given i have to lose at least 100 pounds, the lapbanding isn't really recommended, instead, it's the rny gastric bypass.  and now that i've been doing more reading on the rny gastric bypass i am more confident that this surgery is the one for me, given the type of eater i am.

i can happily say that on Monday May 26th my life changed.  that was the day i told my family doc that i was ready for wls.  he then gave me a referral to Dr. Schram in Michigan, along with a referral to a person here in Peterborough who had just had the same surgery back in December by the same surgeon ... and believe it or not, but on Friday, May 31st i was sitting talking one-on-one to Dr. Schram in Michigan.  yup, that's how fast i got my consutl!!  i spoke to them on Wednesday and i was there on Friday!  yeehaw!

as for the rest of my story ... see the blog above ... it goes into more detail ... and as they say ... the rest is history!  ha, ha, ha!!
