Getting an early start....

Jan 19, 2012

This first week home has been interetsing. My SO (Significant Other) has training all week at work which means we have been up at 0530 each and everyday. I am a night shifter and my SO usually works an 11-7 shift. It is going to be VERY hard for me to get back on my sleep/eat/live schedule once I go back to work.

Yesterday I wanted so badly to fill out the MY JOURNEY section of my profile. I got started, and realized what a huge undertaking this is going to be. I also realized that I would be better off to add this in a year when I actually have some results for the third section. I have saved what I wrote for now and will work on editing it all together in prep for later posting. For now I will just have to give you tid bits about me on an occasional basis.

The protein and I are making some peace. I ordered a sample from Chike and I am using a scoop of Unflavored Unjury and a scoop of Choc Splendor Unjury with 8oz Milk for a 40g 8oz protein shake twice a day. This is at least manageable for me. I have one in the AM, and then one in the afternoon about 6-8 hrs after the first one. The one thing I worry about is my water intake. I am still struggling to get that in. I also noticed that I can take a normal mouthful guld of fluid with no issues... just cant do too many in a row. Is this normal? I thought this would make me nauseous or over full feeling, but it doesn't usually. I am also still dealing with true for real HUNGER. UGHHHHHH, I was soooooo sure that once my tummy was tiny then I wouldn't feel the urge to eat (excpet mentally) but this isn't true for me. I did some research on here yesterday and found that many say it takes a while for the body and hormones to ctach up and realise what you have done. So, I feel betetr knowing I am not alone in this, and I await the day when it just magically goes away (crossing fingers) as it has for many others before me.

The other thing I have been wondering about is Carb intake. I was not given a specific number, just lists of approved foods. Sugar Free popscicles are my fav thing right now because they are the ONLY thing that gets that protein and medicine taste out of my mouth. However, they have carbs... depending on the brand, they have 2-4 carbs. Well, that adds up. And my SO had brought me what I thout was Sugar Free Italian Ice.. turns out is it NO SUGAR ADDED and has 20. yes 20 carbs each from I am guessing would be real fruit juice. Box has sweetened with Splenda all over the darn thing and I failed to read the whole box. So now I have been consuming at least 40 carbs a day for the past three days on Italian Ice alone.... plus popscicles and protein shakes ( each doubled protein shake is only 3-4 carbs plus the milk carbs 13) so that makes 17 carb shakes twice a day (the DR. office said it was ok to use 8oz 1% milk for each protein shake and I am only doing this 2x and not 4x as pre surgery) I usually have 4-5 popscicles, so that is anywhere from 8 carbs to 20 carbs depending on what brand we have in the house at that moment. I have pretty much stopped eating the sugar free jello and yogurt i am allowed 1 each a day and i just can't stand them. they would have added another 15 or so carbs. So as I see it, I have been intaking possibly as much as 80+ carbs a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have lost 20lbs since surgery day  and I am 10 days out of surgery.

I know this will all be adressed with the Dr & Nut next week at follow up, so I am not going to freak... just be more mindful when others are shopping for me or just do it myself. I have to find a better low carb yogurt and I just cant wait to get on some pureed food. So over the liquid!!!!! My Dr has a VERY detailed program with like 5 stages of eating with approved food lists for each one, so I need to pour over those lists and lamenate them to my fridge. I have read the material a few times, but there really is never "enough" when you are relearning to eat.

OK, well I must get on about my day. 40 g Protein already in me and an 8oz hot tea (decaf w/sweetnlow)... now to start the water.  I hope you all have a wonderful and blessed day.
