Hi, my name is Shelly. I am 28 years old, 5'7" and weigh 353 lbs. My BMI is 55.3. I have been overweight most of my life. I started gaining weight at 8 years old. I have tried everything to lose weight, but it always comes back on x2. I have struggled with this soooo long, it makes me sad just thinking about it. I feel trapped in a big persons body. Being like this just makes you depressed. I have a wonderful husband that tells me i'm beautiful no matter what. His name is Doug and we've been married to foralmost 5 years. We have not been able to conceive any children, but I know it's due to my weight problem.
BIG people run on my dad's side of the family. I remember my grandma telling me that "I reminded her so much like her mother (my great grandmother). That I was built just like she was."
I went to the doctor yesterday and she told me I had edema (ankle swelling)and asked me if i've thought about gastric bypass surgery. I have always wanted to have it done, but with my insurance it has to be medically necessary (BCBS of NY). She clearly stated that it was now medically necessary. My ankles have swelled so much that sometimes it hurts to walk. I have have lower back problems, feet and ankle swelling, I can't sleep at night because my backs always hurting, I can keep going, but i'm sure you get the point.
I have submitted my questionare to Dr. Kenneth Warnock, M.D. and i'm just waiting to hear something back. I'm just worred that my insurance won't approve the surgery. If anyone has any advice, please email me. I can only pray that this goes smoothly.
