my ablation

Jan 12, 2009

I had a simple same day surgery today and am trying to recoup.   The coumadin (blood thinnners) I am on has caused my periods to be crazy floods that literally keep me from leaving the house.  It also caused dizziness and cramping - low iron. So my doctor suggested a fairly new procedure called an Ablation where he goes in and burns the interior layer of my uteral wall, ceasing all future mentral flow.  Sounds painful, but not so bad so far. Hey, I was all for that since I had my tubes tied after the baby and have no need for a period EVER again.  So today, it was done.  I'm feeling surprisingly well, just need to take it easy.  But I was disappointed to see that I was up ANOTHER 5 lbs - putting me at 315!  I have got to get busy again.

I have hypothyroidism (inactive) and have been on meds for 15 years for that.  My protein intake has always been good.  I've never had trouble getting enough of that.  I take Centrum and Caltrate as well as B-complex (under the tongue).  Other than that, I require no further meds.  Great news for a girl who used to carry all my meds  around in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag!  I am working on getting back on Detrol for bladder control though.  I used to take it and stopped, but it has gotten really embarrassing for me lately.
