Lorri...research, research, and more research, thats my advice! I was told by my WLS surgeon that at my weight (367lbs) I had less than a 5% chance of taking the weight off by diet and exercise alone. I wish I had known that at your age(I'm 35). Believe me I did try to lose the weight. I spent one and a half years going weekly to an Eating Disorders Clinic. I wouldn't change it for the world because I learned so much about my eating habits but I'm now heavier then before. They discouraged WLS at the clinic but towards the end I knew WLS was the answer for me. I'm sooo sick of watching my life pass before my eyes as I stand on the side lines! I have had Dr.s that made me cry to the present one I have now who is the most wonderful supportive person I could ask for. Don't let your Dr. make the choice for you! It's your decision and yours alone! Good Luck!

Hi Lorri....Welcome to the California board! You will find lots of support and information here. Come often!
