1/7/08-3rd fill

Jan 24, 2008

Today is 1/25/08.  I forgot to log my 3rd fill on 1/7/08. The worst part about fills for me is the after fill diet my doc puts me on. Ugh. 3 days clear liquids, 3 days full liquids, 3 days pureed, 3 days soft foods.  I usually don't stick to it, only the about the first 3 days but then I start to slowly eat.

Since my third fill, I have felt some changes, definately more restriction.  I am tighter in the morning. I drink my protien shake much slower than before.  I've brought my portions back down to about a cup to a cup and half. I have to chew chew chew better and longer.  I'm back to the basics.  I don't know if I've lost any more.  I need to weigh myself at my moms.  I refuse to buy my own scale.  I'll get paranoid and weigh myself all the time.

I find that I have a harder time eating when the weather is cold.  I've had to resort to a lot of soups.  I'm loving tomato soup right now, but when I can get a good meal down, oh it's like heaven.  I ate some warm steamed broccoli the other day and it was the best.

I am less restricted in the evenings which is both good and bad.  I can eat a good meal, but then I tend to nibble on everything else I can get my hands on.  I haven't found a way to stop the grazing. I'm still proud because the quantity of food is so much less than before.  I used to feel miserable after eating so much after eating dinner.

This has been one of the best decisions in my life; I feel so much better about myself.

I've had 2 fills now. I'm at 2.0cc in a 4.0 cc band. I can still eat just about anything, but less of it.  I'm not losing as much weight as before, then again it is the holiday season and temptation is lurking.  Either way, I've come very far and feel great.  I'm not too concered with how much I'm losing per week or month.  I take it a day at a time and enjoy every moment of it.

Since being banded, my biggest accomplishment is going back to school. Some of my fears have been put to rest.  I don't think I would have done it with all the weight I hand on me before.

I try to keep a mental note of calories, but am not strict about it.  I start with a protein drink every morning to get me started, otherwise I wouldn't eat at all and that's not good, my lunches are usually protein, veg, and starch.

Night time is the hardest, I tend to eat more and snack more.  I'm still working on that.

Cravings:

For a while I wanted popcorn all the time.  Some say popcorn is a no no, but I just had to have that kettle corn stuff. I kept it to a minimum though with the mini bags.  I wanted mustard on everything and not to mention wanting peanut butter all the time. PB is very high in fat and calories so I limit that to my protein shakes and only a little of it.

Some weeks, I want beans with everything and other days I don't.

PBs & Sliming - Usually on dry chicken or from eating too fast. SLOW DOWN!!! It's not a race.

Eating in general:

I don't get as embarassed eating a plate of food in front of people like I did before.

I'm not looking at who has more food on their plate.

I hardly ever want seconds, though my mind does some times.

I still love cheeeeese. I can't stand lowfat cheese.

Drinking:

I always wait and hour after eating.

I do not drink carbonated drinks.

It's harder for me to get all my water in.  I just forget sometimes.

I try to avoid liquid calories except for the morning shake.

I went in yesterday for my first fill. I was a little nervouse, but it went ok.  I have 1cc in my 4cc band.  My doc required 3 days of clear liquids, 3 days of full liquids, 3 days of pureed foods, and then 3 days of mushies.  I am not excited about it, but oh well, it is what it is.  All I've had to day is water and it's almost lunch time.

The best part is that I came down another 11 lbs. That's a total of 47lbs.

On Monday the 18th, I went in for my follow up and I am down 36 pounds.  Below has been my diet so far.

2. Starch: 2-3 servings a day.  1 serving equivalent to 1/4 cup
3. Veggies: 2-3 serviings, 1/4 cup cooked veg. or 1 cup of salad
4. Fruits 2-3 servings a day (1/4 cup whole fruit or 1/4 of whole fruit) I ate the whole fruit
5. Soup: 1 cup a day, non-fat, veg or broth based
6. High proten drinks: 1-2 a day
7. water 64 oz. a day
8. Fats: fat free mayo, non-stick cooking spray, and ff salad dressing
9. Vitamins and exercise

Post Op
Week 1: Broth, 100% juice, Isopure, water, SF jello, SF pops
Week 2: Broth, 100% juice, Isopure, water, SF jello, SF pops, skim milk, yogurt, protein shakes
Week 3: Broth,  Isopure, water, SF jello, SF pops, skim milk, yogurt, protein shakes, mushies (refried beans, mash potatoes) Pureed tuna, chicken, ground beef - only 1/2 cup portions at each meal
Today I start soft solids - all this means is that I don't have to puree my food anymore, but I still have to limit to half cup portions

I'm really proud of myself so far.  I already feel my clothes fitting looser. I am hoping to start walking soon and incorporate some excersize into my daily routine.  This is the hardest part for me as I seem to have no time, but I'll make it work somehow.

I had my lap band put in 15 days ago and I've been taking it a day at a time.  Each day I feel better and better.  The first few days out, I was so medicated that I wasn't hungry at all. I had to force myself to take in all the liquids I needed.  Thank God for my husband for helping me so much and to my little sister.  I could not get off the sofa on my own until about day 6.  I have a difficult recliner.  The worst part was all the gas pain. I walked walked walked and flapped the arms, but nothing seemed to work. I did Gas X strips, beano, and even tried Mylanta.  I made my husband celebrate when I graciously tooted all that stuff out.   The next worst part was the Heparin Shots - three a day for 14 days.  It's so inconvenient and now I'm bruised all over, but as of yesterday I done with them. These were to prevent clotting after surgery.  My doctor required them.

Today I started the mushy stage.  Refried beans and cheese for me.  I ate them from 1-1:30pm about 1/2 a cup and it's now 4:30pm and I'm not even hungry.  That's pretty good, but it could be because I'm still healing.

I go in on Monday for my follow up.  I know they will weigh me so I'm excited to see what I've lost so far.

Well my surgery day is almost here. Only 2 days to go.  Whoopee.  I think I have just about everything I need.  I'm still doing pretty good on the pre-op diet, except for the other night I kind of  over did it.  I just looooove pizza and have been wanting some, but I will not mess up my diet.  Well, I bought some whole wheat tortillas, spahetti sauce, some 2% cheese and mushrooms and  threw it all together, stuck it in the oven and so so yummy.  Sadly, I ate three of them.  That was probably my worst day, but I'm passed it.  I could have easily eaten more than that in real greasy pizza from the pizza place.  Today so far I had 1 protein shake and a cheese stick as a snack.  48oz. of water so far and it's not even noon.  Good job to me on the water.  Still no excersize - we'll see what happens tonight.

Pre OP Diet

5/24/07

I'm 1 week into my pre-op diet and so far so good.  I've been a really good girl eating my protein, veggies, and really no starch.  It's hardest in the evening since that was usually my grazing time.  I really have to start thinking about exercise.  I just don't do it.  I did go walking once this week if that counts for anything.  Oh, and Monday night we went skating. I only went about 3 or 4 times around the ring.  I was scared out of my mind, but it was fun.  I felt kind of self conscious, but part of me didn't care. Hey, at least I'm trying is what I kept saying to myself.  I need to drink more water.  It's 1pm today and I've gotten through about 30oz today.
