Hello everyone. My name is Michelle, I am a 39 year old single mother of four beautiful children. 18, 10, 7, 18mo.
I applied for surgery about 3 years ago and was denied I didn't know about appeals or anything so I just chalked it up as a loss. I had applied for the LapBand and they said I had no co-morbidities. OK.
I switched doctors after meeting my grandmothers dr in the hospital as she was dying and let me tell you that lady impressed me something crazy so I made the switch and have been so happy. No more waiting forever to get an appointment and then waiting for a long time in the waiting room then patient room before I got to see her. (Although she was also a GREAT doc)
Ok so sometime along the line my new doc asks me if I have ever considered WLS??? I said I had applied but denied...gave her the story. She said well didn't you do a sleep apnea test recently? Yes, and I have it... well thats a co-morbidity... ok so we have done a few more tests and nothing else really major minor things, incontinence, back pain, knee pain etc. She tells me try again.
I call the original surgeon that I had met before and left a message for someone to call back. 2 weeks passed and no call, I left another message and another week passed and no call. So I call a girlfriend who has had WLS and she gave me the name of her doc... you must first attend a seminar before you can make an appointment. My daughter and I went and I was a little freaked out. I was set on LapBand, but was given so many more types that are available. The surgeon is world-known for his DS surgery so I'm a little interested. I made an appointment, and the insurance lady there knows everything that needs to be known... I must first do a 6 mo. dr. supervised diet, you all know the one. So here I am....
September 2, 2008 will be my last weigh in then we will be going for insurance approval... I am so nervous and so excited at the same time.
I will post here to let anyone know what is going on.
Michelle
