One month RNY Surgery anniversary

Jan 25, 2014

Tomorrow will be one month since I had RNY. I went in at 270 lbs and today I am 247.  That is 23 lbs lost in a month.

Two days ago I had my four week follow up with the surgeon's P.A. She said I was doing well and to stay excited and motivated.

How could I NOT remain excited and motivated. So many good things have happened since surgery.  I can zip up my calf high boots, I can wear a skirt that couldnt a month before and look GOOD in it.  My jeans and pants no longer dig into my midsection when I sit.

I am cleared for excercise again (just not heavy lifting). Previously, I just walked but I am really happy to be getting back to step class again.  I am sort of miffed that the gym cut the class to only ONE per week. Total body combat sounds....a bit too...testosterone laden for me.

I havent been this weight in 3 years!  Prior to the PCOS going nuts!  I am so happy.

The heavens are smiling on me as well as I won a coach purse at the wedding expo!!!

While this trip has been mostly sunshine and roses, I have had a few things that concerned me that I spoke to the PA with. The first was wacky periods.  I have had  3 in 4 weeks!  The other was feeling faint when hopping up from a prone position.  HOwever, she assured me that both of these are common with WLS patients and will eventually stabilize.

I am happy with what I get to eat for this period (i.e. soft veggies, eggs (scrambled hard boiled) and flakey fish (baked broiled or canned). Havent had any pouch problems and I guess it is because of how I eat it (i.e. small bites with the baby spoon, chewing to applesauce consistentcy).  The PA said in the future if I have a pouch problem with a food, it is not the food but how I ate it. So I guess I must be eating my food correctly.

I am currently eating 1/4-1/3 cup per meal. I should eventually work my way up to half but around the 1/3 mark, I get hiccups which before surgery, was my "full sign"  I am starting to feel hungry, but not that thanksgiving full, so I will stay in the 1/4-1/2 cup guideline for now. I imagine some nerves were cut or stapled and they need some time for fix themselves.

My hunger is different. When I did weigh down workshop, Qwen shamblin said hunger is a "polite little" feeling that comes and goes.  Previously my hunger was NEVER polite. It was a roaring lion.  Now, I do get these feelings that I interpret to be hunger that are polite (maybe even acidity).

The only "bad" thing about this surgery thus far has been the multiple periods and having to microwave my food twice to keep it warm in a meal.  I can easily live with both.  WLS was why God invented the microwave!  ;)

One thing that did surprise me (though not bad) is the cost of vitamins. I am saving a ton on food but I just spent $180 bucks in what I believe to be 3 months worth of vitamins.  So that is 60 bucks a month on vitamins. However, my food bill was only 60 bucks this month (instead of 200) so...I can live with it. One tilapia fillet lasts about 3 meals!  I remember when I could eat the whole thing, and a veggie and dessert.

I am really liking my life after RNY. It is so nice not to be captured into the evil hold of food anymore. I exhausted hours wondering if 1) I was hungery, 2) was my portion size right, 3) what was the WW points value of what I was eating, about to eat.

Now I just eat what is on the list, in the amount listed and things are working.

Imagine that!  First time a "diet" plan actually worked. Yes, it is the surgery, but it is also me making the correct choices and sticking to it too!

NSV- Calf high boots zipped

Jan 07, 2014

Today I am 261 lbs and exactly 7 days out from surgery. I have lost 9 lbs in 7 days.

I am even more happy because I had two knee high boots that would not zip over the top of my calves. Yesterday I zipped them all the way to the top!!! I havent been able to zip them in 3 months!

This makes me really really happy.

On another note, I treated myself to 10 tins of atlantic caught tuna from Spain. It is considered luxury tuna on chef's reviews. I just paid 4.20 cents a can for tuna!!! Ugh.  However, I figure doctors, psychologists, nutritionists, hospitals and nurses are all getting paid in my WLS endevour...why shouldnt I have something nice for myself too? My motives are good since I am trying to avoid radioactive starkist/bumblebee/chicken of the sea.

My nutritionist has prescribed tuna for week four and tuna I shall have.

I am not pleased with the price but I do think I am worth avoiding radioactive tuna.

I also had a BM today. But that is nothing to write about..

5 Days Post-op

Jan 05, 2014

Today is day 5 after rny surgery and I have already lost 5 lbs. The surgery went great and I had little pain. When I woke up it felt like I had just been to abs class (i.e. My abs were sore). Today I feel completely normal. I see the incisions but I dont feel them. I have been out shopping and carrying on as usual. I do need naps though.

Waiting for 50.5 inch hips

Nov 30, 2013

11-30-2013,

Surgery can not come soon enough.

One of the things that prompted me towards surgery was achieving the US size 28 (i.e. Burda size 60).  I love fashion and pretty clothes. I would like to wear them.  I had gotten a Burda plus magazine with the intent of sewing some in my size and discovered that I was too plus for plus!

So I have started sewing some pieces, leaving the hems and waistbands unfinished. I will adjust those when my hips reach the largest burda size (i.e. 52). That is 10 large inches from now.

So my surgery is scheduled for 12/31. I hope I can be wearing this by at least April.  Who knows how it will go.

There are some pics of the skirt in my album. I think it is called Waiting for 50 inch Hips or something like that. I am especially proud of the curve which uses interlacing.
