No longer OBESE!

Dec 23, 2008

12-23-08  Today I weigh 172 pounds.  When calculating that on the BMI calculator, it puts me at 29.  Being at 29 means I'm no longer obese, but just overweight.  My heart won't slow down...I'm so happy!

Watch out...I'M BACK!!

Nov 01, 2008

11-1-08  Wow, it's been a while since I've posted and well...nothing has happened with my journey since then so no one has missed a thing.  I got finished with the 5DPT yesterday which was Halloween and I did really good.  Not even one piece of candy!  Today I surprised myself.  I took the kids to the park and after sitting in the van for a few minutes, I decided to walk the track.  After one lap, I decided to run 1/10th of a mile since it's been so long since I've ran.  I ended up doing 1.3 miles.   Tomorrow:  THE GYM!

My first 5k and other news

Jun 24, 2008

6-25-2008  I met my goal of running a 5k in a sanctioned race last Saturday.  My time was 39:47 and I was so happy to finish in under 40 minutes without stopping.  The race was in Stephenville in conjuction with Dairyfest.  The name of the race was silly...Milk Town Trot!  Jordan and Kyndal were waiting close to the finish line holding posters they had made for me.  I rounded the last corner and there they were and I was so surprised!  Jordan ran with me to the end yelling 'go Momma go'...it was so sweet!

Ethan has been gone to his dad's for his summer visit for 8 days now and I miss him terribly.  I will pick him up at the airport on August 1.  Tommy is doing good in Jalalabad Afghanistan and we get to talk most every day either online or on the phone.  He seems to be doing ok and I'm really proud of him for sacraficing a year of his life to help our family.  He's my hero.

The past few weeks have been really cool for me because I've had several people tell me that I inspire them or ask me for help with a particular thing.  Martijo has asked me to help her train for her first 5k in November.  Jennifer G has given me such sweet positive comments too.  The biggest shock for me has been my friend Julie.  She and her daughters are living with me right now.  Julie isn't one for exercise, but she joined the gym and we go several times a week.  We are doing weights and cardio.  She went to a strength and toning class with me on Monday.  The biggest shock though was when she told me that she had looked up the 'couch to 5k' program online that I had told her about.  Last night was her first time and she did so good!  I was sooo very proud of her.  She would not have started running if she hadn't seen my example and I'm so proud of that.  I'm hoping we can run in a 5k together in the fall.  She's also joining Sparkpeople today too.  GO JULIE!

My weight is not moving again which is frustrating as hell.  I had got to 183 pounds which put me at a 150 pound loss...quite a milestone!  But I gained back 3 pounds and they are just sitting there.  I'm eating right, exercising most every day and journaling my food in Sparkpeople so I don't know what is going on.  I need to just not weigh for a month.  I did take my measurements on Monday though and even though I've only lost 6 pounds in 4 weeks, I've lost over 11 inches.  Four of those inches were in my hips so I was happy about that!

Until next time...  Jules

100 Pounds Lost Since Surgery

Jun 05, 2008

6-5-08  I realized today that I have lost exactly 100 pounds since my surgery and I will be 10 months out tomorrow.  With the weight I lost pre-op, that brings me to 145 pounds lost.  The BMI calculator says I'm just 'obese' now and not 'super morbidly obese' like I was when my
BMI was over 50.  I was at the gym the last two days and plan on going today and looking forward to that.  Now, if I can just shake this stomach bug I'll be doing great!

Tommy leaves for Afghanistan

May 21, 2008

5-21-2008  Lots has happened since my last post in my life so let's get started...My husband, Tommy, has been hired by KBR out of Houston to be a contract worker in Afghanistan.  I took him to the airport on Mother's Day so he could fly to Houston and go through about 10 days of processing.  His flight leaves in 5 hours and 12 minutes from now.  The time leading up to him going to Houston was the worst filled with uncertainty, anxiety and fear.  I spent many nights laying on his chest crying in bed while he would stroke my hair and tell me that it will all be ok.  Now that he has been gone from our home for 10 days, I'm doing ok and so are the kids.  We are getting our routine down and everyone seems to be happy, which is great.  I was really worried about Ethan because Tommy kept Ethan during the day for the past 18 months while I was at work because he worked from home.  They are so close and Tommy spent more time with Ethan than anyone else.  Ethan talked to Tommy on the phone last night for the last time and told him over and over 'I love you Daddy.'  It was so sweet.  Tommy should call me one more time before he is 'wheels up' as they call it and then I'll have to just sit and wait for him to call me sometime in the next week to let me know he got there ok.  That part will be hard.

School is out a week from tomorrow and my daughter, Jordan, has lots of activities planned so far.  She'll be going to volleyball camp, then basketball camp and then have a week off before going to Church camp.  Her and Corbett will spend some time with thier dad this summer, maybe a week.  Corbett is starting to job hunt today.  I hope he finds something close to home so he can walk since he doesn't get his driver's license until October!

My friend, Julie, is moving back to Stephenville from Houston.  She and her 4 daughters will be staying with me this summer.  Two of her daughters are here with me now and it is working out so well.  Ethan and Kelly are the same age and Corbett is only 2 years younger than Lauren.  Lauren is such a good girl and I'm hoping her influence will rub off on Corbett!  The other two girls are one year older and one year younger than Jordan, so that is great too.  It will be cramped, but so much fun and I'm looking forward to a lively summer!

I've really struggled with 'doing good' for months now.  I'll do good and then do not so good for a while.  I'm happy to day that I worked out 5 days last week and 2 days so far this week.  I weigh 189.5.  It's really cool to be out of the 190's.  I'm trying to learn more about carbs, what is good...what is not regarding carbs.  Someone posted the other day 'if you don't eat white carbs, you will not crave them!'  That is the best piece of advice I have gotten so far and it's completely true!  I've been having wraps for lunch made with 100% whole grain wheat wrap bread so I'm getting satisfaction of the bread without the horrible carb cravings afterwards.  I'm also going to be venturing out on my cooking and will be trying some new veggies and fruits.  Having Julie and her kids will be good because I can experiment and have them eat it!  ha ha.  Well, I'm off to walk at the park!

Best WOW moment yet!

Apr 21, 2008

4-21-2008  So I was in the car with my 16 year old son, Corbett, on the way to the park so he could play basketball with his friends.  One of his friends, Charlie, is a little older than him and I've known this guy since he was 4 years old.  Corbett was driving our car, so when he got out, I had to get out also and walk around the car to the driver's side.  I kissed him on the cheek and said 'Tell Charlie I said hi.'  So I see Corbett walk up to Charlie and after a second he pointed towards me.  Charlie comes running over to the car really fast and I thought something was wrong so I jumped out.  His eyes were real big and he said, 'It IS you!!!!!!!!!  I didn't recongnize you and thought you were Corbett's girlfriend!'  Needless to say, this kid is my new best friend!
