The Corn Maze of Healthcare: Why Is Surgery So Hard to Get?

I used to think that being over 500 lbs was an "all-access pass" to the help I need. I figured if the "monster" of obesity is this big, the doors to surgery would swing wide open. Instead, I found myself standing at the entrance of a massive, confusing corn maze built by insurance companies.

Every time I think I see the finish line, I hit a dead end. "You need six months of documented dieting." "We need a psych evaluation." "Your primary doctor’s letter isn't specific enough." It feels like they want me to get lost so they don't have to pay.
