Today I am exactly one year out from surgery. I am doing excellent and still losing. I have lost 123 pounds since surgery day! Right now I am on a losing streak and am grateful my tool is still handy. A few days ago, I had to have my gallbladder yanked, but all is well and i'm up and running like it never happened. I am sooo happy that things have worked out for the better. I am very pleased with the results of the surgery.

I Love My RNY!

7 months out!

Jan 23, 2008

I am now officially 7 months post-op and doing great. I have sooo much more energy now. I am going to school full-time and trying to hit the gym at least 5 days a week. I love doing the eliptical machine. That thing really pushes me. The treadmill just doesn't do it for me anymore. I am also starting yoga in the mornings and using an exercise ball at home. I feel like I got a lot going on right now considering, but it seems to be working out for me because I feel awesome. My feet don't even hurt me anymore and that alone allows me to be much more active.
I saw my surgeon earlier this month and all went well. Last I was on the scale I weighed 256lbs. That is 92lbs. down from 348lbs. the day of surgery. I am anxious to hit 100lbs. now. My weight has been fluctuating lately, I gather that it's just a normal thing since I know I am doing things right. I thought that it could be because I have gained muscle because I am definitly losing inches due to the fact that my pants are loose. I guess sometimes the scales do lie! lol
I am thinking about keeping a food log to monitor what I am eating. Sometimes it is easy to fall back into old habits, and I am trying to stay on top, since I still have almost another 100lbs. to lose...yikes!

When I reach my 100lb. mark, I will be sure to update and get my century card. Everyone's gonna get a earfull for sure. lol
I hope I hit it by Valentines day!

Thank God!

For over a month in a half, I have stalled. I recently lost 6 lbs. in 2 days. I was feeling very discouraged and feared that maybe I wasnt gonna end up a success story after all. All I did was cut back on carbs a little, aimed for more protein and more food -yes more food because I was eating practically less than 450 calories a day, now I am aiming for 600 calories as my mini goal. I am also more serious about the gym now. I feel great and motivated to reach my goals!

Out of the 300's!

Sep 06, 2007

Well I am now officially no longer 300+ lbs. As of today, I weigh 293 lbs. I did have a couple of stalls, but I am glad that I am loosing at a steady pace. I am noticing the skin in my arms and inner thigh sagging more already. I exercise so it will help make me more tone. I am still trying to work on getting in my water and protein in everyday. I have been slacking with the protein lately because I am having trouble with eating meat, especially chicken. I have another post-op appointment with Dr. Ali in October and if I don't get food down better by then, I might  have to get checked for a stricture. I have been eating mostly healthy home-made soups, beans, and cheese, which is another good protein source.

Soon I will gather up pics and post them on here so everyone can see the physical changes I have gone through.

Update

Jul 21, 2007

I went to my 6 week post-op appointment yesterday and everything is going great. After my first 2 weeks I reached a stall for almost 4 weeks, and it drove me nuts! I finally lost another 11 lbs. and I know during the stall I lost inches because I can wear a smaller pant size now. My surgeon told me I was right on track when I expressed concern that the weight loss seemed kinda slow.
The only thing I am struggling with right now is my timing when I eat a meal, getting in my protein and water, and getting used of eating very little. It's not that I am overeating, it's just that it takes getting used to when you can only eat a couple of bites rather than a plate full. The mental part of this process needs to be more balanced with the physical.
I was glad to see Dr. Ali yesterday and I told him how appreciative I was of him. I know now for sure that I would do this again if I had to and I wouldn't change a thing. As weeks progress I notice little subtle changes going on with my body. I am not feeling as weak as I was, and I feel like my energy level went up a notch. After the appointment, my husband and I spent the day at the beach since it is less than 10 minutes away from my surgeon's office. I am 18 lbs. away from getting out of the 300's and I will be sure to post again when I do.

Update

Jun 19, 2007

I went to my appointment today and I have lost 19 pounds! The day of my surgery I weighed 348 pounds and now I'm down to 329. Before my surgery I lost 5lbs from fasting than gained it back after surgery also, and weighed 353 when I left the hospital, but they don't count that! I am off my blood pressure pills and things are going good. I can't wait untill I reach 299lbs, and get out of the 300's.
I also wanted to mention that my husband lost 17lbs. dieting and exercising. It's funny how fast men can lose! He isn't interested in the surgery, but our lifestyle has changed a lot. The past 2 weeks have been very much like a detox for us, so we both are going through this together. We gained a lot of weight since we've been together and finally we're both on the same page. Many past diet attempts I failed at. I think when you are in a relationship you both have to change the eating habits together. This surgery is a great tool to help me lose, and my husband is more motivated than ever because now I'm a changed woman!

2 Weeks post-op

Jun 18, 2007

I did it! There for awhile I had fears it wasn't going to happen. I am very happy with the outcome. I did well and am recovering very quickly. I am so glad that I went with Dr. Ali. I had no complications, my incisions are healing well and slowly fading. The only pain I felt was in my abdomen. Some people wake up sore all over from the operating table. I'm guessing it all depends on how gentle they are in there. My only complaint was the hospital bed because it made my back hurt and the Morphine. Now that I have had this surgery, I know now that Morphine is not for me. I think that I may have recovered even faster if I went without the Morphine. I was in the hospital for three days, and of course my husband was by my side. Dr. Ali and his PA checked on me everyday. Getting up and walking isn't too bad once the dizzies go away from the Morphine.
I was sooo terrified the final hours leading to my surgery, I was mainly overwhelmed with a sense of guilt because I was afraid of how it would affect my husband If things went wrong, but I knew that at 27 years old with high blood pressure and taking three different pills to treat it, plus the fact that diabetes run in my family strongly that it would only get worse. Once they got the IV in I became calm. The first and thrid days are the worst, but when I flash forward to today, I feel relief that the anticipation and anxiety is over with. The week of my surgery is slowly becoming a faded memory. Tomorrow I am seeing my surgeon for my 2 week post-op visit. I surely will be glad when I am out of the liquid phase diet stage of  post-op. I am done for now, but I will post shortly to talk about my visit tomorrow. Goodbye!

Still on!

Jun 01, 2007

As of now, I am still scheduled for Monday. I had an ultrasound done on my heart, was placed on a 24hr heart monitor and had another EKG done. All is well, the only thing was that my heart rate was a little rapid so they are just adjusting my meds. I am glad I saw this cardiologists it eased my mind. My PCP that has been giving me trouble finally cleared me. My husband is sick, so I am crossing my fingers I don't catch what he's got and this ear ache doesn't get any worse. There is a lot going on right now and this is a stressful time, but I will try to post before my big day!

Update

May 28, 2007

Tomorrow is the big day I meet the surgeon. Things have been very much like a roller coaster lately because I am not exactly clear on what's going on. Last week I was in the process of completing my final pre op, which was my EKG and it came back abnormal and my bloodwork is a little off as well. I fear my surgery will be cancelled again. Tomorrow I will see a cardiologist which will basically be the deciding factor on whether or not this is going to happen. I am 27 years old and all I can say is that I hope things are okay with my heart. I keep telling myself it's nothing but when my surgery was cancelled before I realzied anything can happen. After I have further cardio testing done, hopefully my one-on-one will still be on. I am not sure being that it is a holiday and I just found out Friday evening I was going in for testing tomorrow at another clinic.
One thing I must say is that the staff at the surgeon's office is really pulling through for me because my PCP and his staff have treated me badly the past few months and the surgeon's office has had to pull their hair out trying to get them to cooperate on my behalf. When I went in for my EKG appointment they even forgot to check my blood pressure and I have hypertension. It is so silly down there! I feel some what embarrased because of how my PCP's office has been behaving and feel bad that it is causing so much drama for everyone. I can't switch doctors untill after my surgery, but untill than I am stuck with him. I will probably update on the 30th since tomorrow will be a busy day. Wish me luck!!

It's Back On

May 20, 2007

The issues with the insurance were finally resolved and now I am scheduled for June 4th. It was a major downer when it was cancelled before and now I am trying to build my confidence back up again. All that is left for me to do now is get an EKG done and the medical clearance from my PCP tomorrow. On the 29th I will meet with Dr. Ali. I will post again after I meet with him.
