Holy cow!

I haven't been on this website in so long it's ridiculous!  So, a little update on my and my weight loss.  I had my surgery on July 18 of 2007 since then I have lost 158lbs.  It is fantastic, but I had been at the same weight for the last 6 months and while it's good that I hadn't gained any weight I hadn't lost any either.  Recently I have gained 5lbs and it is freaking me out so I am going to put a stop to that immediately!  That is definately a step in the wrong direction.  I am getting back into the gym and getting back to work!

3 Weeks Post-op

Aug 08, 2007

Well, it's officially 3 weeks today. I started on my soft/pureed food last night. I found that beans are my friend. I'm afraid to try chicken even if it is blended up. Just not sure about that yet.
I'm feeling better everyday and actually got into my friends pool today to float a little bit. It was nice.
I've had some issues with energy, but hopefully it will get better now that I am taking in a few more calories.
Otherwise, it's been good so far :)

12 Days Post-Op

Jul 30, 2007

Well, today is ok so far. Yesterday I did too much when I went to the grocery store and Wal-Mart. My body just wasn't up to the challenge yet. So, today I'm tired and lack energy.
Last night I started having panic again. Which means I'm not yet stabilized on my Lexapro, which sucks. I hate the feelings that come with panic. Since I have had it for so long now though, I can usually calm myself down. So, hopefully it gets to where it needs to be and soon.
I have my 2-week follow up on Thursday and can't wait. I want to see if I can start some soft liquids now. My diet right now consists of: Protein shakes, broth w/protein in it, sugar-free popcicles, and occasional yogurt or pudding. I haven't had any problems with anything I've tried. I just feel like if I could get some egg whites or something like that I would feel like I had more energy. We'll see though. Whatever the Doc says goes! I didn't go through all of this to not listen to her.
My pain is almost gone, though sneezing still makes it hurt. I'm able to be more up and around even though it tires me out.
I think my boys are getting happier to see Mommy up and around too. Trying to get some assemblence of order back into my life and theirs.
My older son is coming to visit on the 6th and will be here two weeks so the boys are really excited to see him. It should be a great visit.
Anyway, I'll try to keep my blog updated.
Thanks for listening!
Stephanie

5 Days Post-Op

Jul 30, 2007

Well, it's been 5 days since surgery. I feel mostly good. Not too much pain. My back is still killing me, but I haven't been comfortable on my back in a long time. The gas pains I get in my upper chest and shoulder really suck, but a heating pad seems to help. I'm up a lot to get to the bathroom and have sat outside a few times. It's pretty windy today so it kind of felt nice. I'm anxious to be able to walk without my incisions hurting. It's really only the left hand ones that are uncomfortable. I don't know what I'd do without the big girdle. It really helps hold the tummy tighter so it doesn't wiggle and hurt.
I actually got on the scale yesterday after my shower and am down 10lbs since surgery. I'm trying to make sure I get my water in. Working on my protein too, but I think I've only gotten in maybe 15 grams so far.
I have been having crazy dreams and actually had a nightmare last night. It was so awful and I woke up in a panic. I was able to finally shake it with some music on the TV. It's my own fault for letting my lexapro lapse. I took it last night and Richard will get it filled tonight. I have got to get stabilized on it again. I'm really emotional right now.

Days Away

Jul 08, 2007

Sunday July 8,2007

My surgery is scheduled for the 18th of July at Fountain Valley Regional. Only a little over a week to go now.
My journey to this surgery actually started a few years ago when I researched it a great deal. I didn't follow through at that time though because I thought I should be able to do it one my own. So, I kept trying to do all the dieting. Needless to say, it didn't work. I found myself DONE, done with being heavy, done with being unhealthy, done with being unhappy with my weight. I did more research, found a dr. and a hospital that were covered by my insurance and did all the paperwork. Once it was turned in it only took 3 days for insurance to approve it! I couldn't believe it. From there it took another 3 or so weeks to get a date from the scheduler for surgery. I am so thankful that it didn't take a really long time, because like I said before: I'm DONE!!

On Friday (the 6th) I went in for a few pre-op tests. The blood draw, the chest X-ray, and the EKG were no problem. The phlebotomist actually got my vein on the first try (I have deep hidden ones so that's saying something). Well, then I went to have an endoscopy done. Let's just say that it pretty much sucked! That stuff they have to spray in the back of your throught to numb it tasted horrid!! Then, the dr said later, I have a really severe gag reflex. They had to give me more meds to get the scope in. I threw up on them (great) and wet myself while throwing up (how completely embarrasing!). So, I hope I don't have to do that ever again!!!

On Monday the 16th I have my classes to attend: Dietary, Doctor Talk, and a support group. Tuesday I meet with Dr. Francis and get my surgery time. Wednesday is the big day.

I find myself getting more and more anxious and nervous, but excited and hopeful all at the same time.
