Hello All!

My name is Tammy Lee.  I had Open RNY Surgery in April 2002 (non-transected) and in about two years lost almost 200 lbs.  I fluctuated between 180 and 195 pounds for several years.  For the last 3 years however, I've gained back about half of what I originally lost.  I've tried diets and exercise and can't seem to get it off and only seem to be able to put more on.

My original surgeon has retired so my PCP recommended another and I went to see him in late January of 2010.  Attended his seminar, went through several medical tests and found that my original surgery has failed in some respects.  My pouch is too big (about the size of a tennis ball) and my staple line is disrupted.  In simpler words, my bypass has been bypassed.

My surgeon's plan is to repair it.  My pouch will be made smaller, two sets of staple lines will be placed and the stomach will be transected.  There will be more risk associated with this surgery than the last as there is a great deal of scar tissue to work around from my last surgery and the plastic surgeries that I've had to remove the excess skin from my original weight loss.

I will have to jump through all the hoops of an initial surgery; nutritional assessments, psych evaluations, more medical tests, co-morbidity testing, etc and a six month wait, but to get my weight loss back on track and more important my health and my body back, it will be all worth it.

Thank you all for sharing this journey with me again.

Tammy Lee
