Getting going
Oct 13, 2010
I started this journey in January, 2010. I attended the informational seminar at my surgeon's office and excitedly started the process. By the middle of March, I was ready for surgery except for insurance approval. When I met with my surgeon, he told me that I could not gain any weight from that date until surgery date. Then the insurance company put a halt on the progress. They required 6 months of doctor supervised diet. I got discouraged, but decided to quit smoking during this process.
The quitting smoking resulted in a 10 lb weight gain. When the scheduler called to schedule the surgery, I informed her that I had gained the weight. She told me that it would be no problem since I would be doing the pre-surgery liquid diet, I would lose the weight by the pre-op appointment on 10/28. I was all set.
I am in the final stages of Pre-Op. I had my sleep study on Monday, October 11th. I am waiting on the official results of that.
Today, October 13th, I met with the Nutritionist to discuss my pre-surgery diet requirements. At the end of the appointment, she told me she needed to get my weight. Once she noted that I'd gained weight, we discussed my options. I opted to start the liquid diet a week earlier than required. I will meet her on Friday, 10/22 to weigh in again. If I am not down below the weight from my consult in March, my surgery will be rescheduled.
I am optimistic yet very upset. I've already waited 9 months. Will report more later.
