Started the process and made decision to do this in early March 2006

I waited 2 months to see Dr. Burchalio for a referral to Dr. Wyant (Early May)

Team meeting held on (February 21st) and Lola sent out paperwork for 2nd OHIP approval

2nd OHIP Approval (February 23rd but I received the nurse’s call on the 26th

(March 19th)
Sister inlaw called to say that Dean’s surgery was scheduled for the 14th of May. I called Robin to schedule our surgeries together, though I was a few weeks behind him. Robin stated that she would contact Dean to see if changing the date would be okay, as there was only one possible date in which to do this, and of course it was fine with Dean. We were then scheduled for May 22nd and 23rd, as our dates, Dean first. I received a call from Robin, the surgery scheduling nurse, later in the day, as she has set up my pre-op appointment with Dr. Vander Loo on the 8th of May. She will contact Janice who will then set up the pre-surgery appointments with the dietician and the nurse.

A few days later I received a call from Marcia with my pre and post-surgery appointments, which are scheduled for May 7th and June 8th. Dean and mine were scheduled together

On May 7th Dean and I saw the dietician “Toddy” and the nurse ‘Mary-Ellen.’ We were given instructions on the liquid diet and told what to expect the day of surgery. They explained the bowel prep instructions and the cleaning solutions done the night before and morning of. We were told that someone would contact us before we go for more questions, often the same ones we’ve answered several times already.

Liquid diet for the next two weeks. (I cheated and had a few bites of cottage cheese now and then and chicken once. I broke down and still feel guilty for doing so.)

During the next week I took my measurements.

 68 inch Butt and Belly
54 inch Bust
53 inch Waist
20 inch upper arm
22 inch calves
37 inch thigh
18 inch neck

Back to Duluth on the 21st of May.  Dean’s surgery went fine on the 22nd and I began my bowel prep, which took approximately 5 hours in total to complete. No problems. I had surgery the following morning and all went well. I awoke to laparoscopic surgery and felt pain free. I had them take me off all the medications within the second day, with the exception of the heparin shots they gave to thin the blood every 8 hours. I was released on Saturday and remained in Duluth with Dean. He broke out with an allergy to Penicillin.

I returned home and have been doing fine. I ate cottage cheese, yogurt, pea soup, mixed fruit mom made with Splenda and protein shakes.

June 7th Dean and Loretta picked me up and we went to Duluth for our follow up. 30 lbs gone for me and 36 for Dean. We were given the okay to eat pureed foods and were asked to follow up with the doctor a month later.

At this point I’ve added these foods. (Mashed potatoes, cheese, chicken, fish, egg, and cooked veggies)
June 12th I took my measurements again:
64 inch butt and waist
53 inch bust
50 inch waist
18.5 inch upper arm
21 inch calves
36 inch thigh
17 inch neck
